-0 he Activities program major news source at HCHS Every news story must begin somewhere. Although Hunterdon Central has numerous sources, many of its headlines originate in the activities program. Every Tues- day, students participate in the wide variety of clubs offered at Central. Often, these meetings are the begin- nings of school news. Several honor societies, recogniz- ing academic merit, meet during the activity periods. The National Hon- or Society, andthe French and Rus- sian Honor Society involve many of Central's top students. At times, these clubs hold newsworthy fun- draisers or perform community ser- vices. Other academically oriented clubs, such as Debate and Forensics and Math League, create news as they compete against other schools in the region. Central often has win- ners in these contests. Service clubs also contribute to the schoolis headlines. Key Club and Interact are active in communi- ty service. They host such newswor- thy events as the senior citizens square dances, and they visit the lo- .,,'1:??'F fQ,,5.gz:'1.p: .,,, fir 4 cal hospitals, nursing homes, and or- ganizations for the handicapped. Also, as news is formulating in the various clubs, members of the school's newspaper, The Lamp, work to report Central's newswor- thy events. Each week, they write diligently to produce accurate news reports. Central also offers many other activities. Each club has its own spe- cial purpose, whether it be to enter- tain, to educate, or to enhance the community. All are an important part of the school and its news.
