Upperschool performers present The Desk Set by Virginia Lawreck The Time: November ll and 12, 1981 The Set: The research department of a television network. The Play: The Desk Setw by William Marchant Senior Tina Hendricks reached the zenith of her high school acting career when she landed the part of Bunny Watson, a 30 year old wom- an with encyclopedia knowledge and an incredible wit. All was peaceful in the office un- til Emmarac appeared on the scene. Emmarac, an 'felectronic brainf, began taking the place of the entire department. No computer could match wits with Bunny, though, and the machine quickly blew a fuse. Senior Scott Thompson appeared as Richard Sumner, the efficiency expert hired to install the electronic brain. throb. Junior Jill Salayi played Peg Cos- tello, an office girl and personal con- fidant to Bunny. The other office girls werejuniors Denise Miller and Virginia Lawreck as Ruth Saylor and Sadel Meyer. Others appearing in the cast were Maria Fenty as the boss, secretary's secretary, Elsa, Dave Wallace as a nosy man from the legal depart- mentg Holly Handspicker as the company's utrademarkf' Shem Schroeck as Kenny, the office boy, Nick Travisano as a reporter, Mark Anthony as a photographer, Lynne Vespe as Miss Warriner, Emmar- ac,s 'fmothergl' and Jenny Parsons, Laura Chadwick, Kirk Behnke, Steve Walny, and Carl Zimmer as office girls and boys. A major event for the cast was a visit from the play's author, William Marchant, He commented on the characters and made some sugges- tions to the cast. Directed by Harry Kazman with the aid of junior Sue Fenty, 'The Desk Set was an enjoyable show for audiences and actors alike. v K K ,, 3 -- 237
