1' fliini Students achieve notoriety through fine arts Upper school play Cabaret . . .lower school play. . . musical. . . marching band . . . Each year, these products of the fine arts department are expected to provide outstanding entertainment. They also, however, contribute to Hunterdon Centralis headlines. They involve a large number of stu- dents, allowing each participant to become part of the school's news. At the beginning of the school year, juniors and seniors present the upper school play. This year head- lines included The Desk Set, an entertaining production, starring several of Central's outstanding ac- tors and actresses. Next, students present the annual Cabaret. This year, the performers set sail with Cabaret at Seaf' As usual, it was a culmination of var- ious outstanding student talents, creating further additions to Cen- tral's news. The underclassmen create fur- ther fine arts headlines with the low- er school play. They presented The Runawaysn this year, a play which dealt with the country's runaway problem. Thus, its theme added im- portance to its news coverage, as the play carried a serious message to its audiences. Towards the end of the school year, the annual musical is a final culmination of students' acting and musical talents. They devote a great deal of time and effort to present an outstanding performance. The show always draws a large, appreciative audience and undoubtedly, contrib- utes to the school's news. This year, students presented 'tBye Bye, Bird- ie, and as usual, it was a fine dis- play of talent. T Acting, however, is only one prod- uct of the fine arts department. The Red Devil Marching Band is an- other important aspect. This year, the band contributed to Centralis news, as it underwent a change in style. The band modernized and en- tered competition. It had a success- ful first year with the change and promises to contribute headlines with its planned trip to England and its future competitions. These are only some of the fine arts department's news items. There are many more activities and clubs which also create headlines.
