55111211 1982 Underclassmen integral part of Central's news Undoubtedly, a great deal of school news is devoted to the senior class, and the underclassmen are of- ten overlooked. They do, however, contribute a great deal to the school's headlines. Few activities are composed en- tirely of seniors. The underclassmen participate in almost every club, sports team, and school organiza- tion. Often, they even become offi- cers or captains of their clubs and teams. They are behind the many headlines which deal with these ac- tivities. Underclassmen also receive news coverage for their academic excel- lence. Each year juniors and some sophomores take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. Hunter- don Central usually has National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists and several letters of commenda- tion, and the underclassmen are re- sponsible for this recognition. Also, in the spring of every year, juniors are rewarded for their academic strength and outstanding eXtra-cur- ricular activities with induction to the National Honor Society. Underclassmen also actively par- ticipate in the schoolis fine arts pro- gram. Each year, they perform in the lower school play, a production composed entirely of underclass- men. They also perform in the annu- al Cabaret and the spring musical. They are members of the Red Devil Marching Band, the H.C.H.S. Folk Singers, and the various other musi- cally oriented programs. Thus, they are part of many of the school's fine arts headlines. A few of Hunterdon Central's un- derclassmen participate in an ex- change program with Sweden and Australia. Thus, they have an op- portunity to create news in a foreign country as well as at Central. Therefore, the underclassmen should not be overlooked as news- makers, for their news is important and far reaching. They create the current headlines, and in future years, they will contribute largely to the school's news as they become Hunterdon Central's succeeding graduating classes. ,.,.- .H--- ' 4n ,f- '
