Through AFS, foreign students come to the United States from any one of 55 countries to live with American families and attend American high schools during their senior year. They are as curious about the world as the American students who AFS sends abroad to live and study for a summer or a year. This exchange forms the basis of AFS International Programs. Through the AFS Domestic Program, students from one part of the U.S. live in a different part of the country for a semester. The purpose of this organization is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in high school students. Eligibility is open only to students in the twelfth grade. These students may not apply for membership; they are selected by a faculty council. Members of the society must possess a 93 grade point average as well as a score of 900 on the SAT. Involved in many various clubs such as FCA, Key Club, H-Club, Beta Club, and the National Honor Society, he is also involved in the student government. Tim was chosen to be a marshall in the 1981 commencement exercises. Versatility has enabled ANNETTE ELDRIDGE to become active in many phases of life at Hunter Huss. Serving as drum major and secretary of the band, she was also a member of the All County Band both her 11 th and 12th grade years. She has also served as pitcher of the softball team throughout her high school years receiving such honors as MVP, outstanding tournament player, and 1st Team All-Conference player. DAVID EDWARDS, a very talented young man, has excelled in many areas, particularly music. He has received many awards for his talent such as participating in the Gaston County Ensemble, All-State Choral Clinic, and the Mars Hill Choral Clinic. David is also a member of the Senior Senate, Bus Drivers and was chosen for Who's Who among American High School Students. Outstanding A sport's enthisiast, CURTIS HOPPER shows his school spirit through his participation in basketball and baseball. Curtis is a member ol the H-Club, Interact Club, and serves as secretary of the Key Club. WAYNE JOHNSON has, in his years at Huss, earned this title. President of the Concert Choir, Wayne has acquired several honors in music. He also attended Governor's School during the summer. Being very active in school, Wayne is a member of the Inter Club Council, Graphic Arts Club, and was the producer for the Miss Huss Pageant. A very athletic student, BEVERLY LEIGH is a valuable member of the Girl's Basketball and Girl's Tennis teams. In her junior year she was selected to be a marshall for the 1981 graduation exercises. She is a member of the band's colorguard and the National Honor Society.
