A graduate of Appalachian Stale University, she received a B.S. degree in business education. Having been a teacher at Hunter Huss for twelve years, she has contributed her time and efforts, not only in the classroom but also in extra-curricular activities. For several years, she was coordinator of all student affairs, a position through which she greatly improved Huss students’ involvement. She is friendly, vivacious, and truly interested in young people. Because of her outstanding service to the school, she is indeed worthy of being the dedicatee of the 1978 Astron. 19 Principal Mr. Russel Clark, a graduate of Catawba College, is now in his third year as principal of Hunter Huss High School. Having been associated with the school system for twenty-two years, he is primarily involved in student affairs at Huss. The Astron staff, along with all the students, finds him a pleasant and concerned man who is sure to contribute to our school life. Assistant Principals Mr. Hiram Baucom, who came to Muss in 1965 as a teacher and coach, has served as one of our assistant principals for four years. He is in charge of discipline, school maintenance, and buses. The Astron staff, students, and faculty find him a pleasant and concerned man who has contributed greatly to the improvement of the school. In this third year as assistant principal. Mr. George Jaggcrs is certainly an asset to the administration. Ilis duties arc varied, ranging from book reports and student absences to discipline and early dismissals. His concern for all students has made him a popular part of Hunter Huss. 21 Secretaries Mrs. Brenda Turlington, who has served in her secretarial position since the school's opening in 1962. manages to fulfill all of her responsibilities very efficiently. The students and faculty find her to be a deserving asset to Hunter Huss. Administrative Assistan Mrs. Sue Sellers, the administrative assistant to Mr. Clark, teaches in the business department. She also gives assistance in the office each morning by making announcements and admitting tardy students. Mrs. Maude Ramsey, who has been a secretary at Huss for four years, continues to keep the office running smoothly. Always busy with her various duties, attendance reports and absentee lists, she is certainly a pleasant addition to the office staff. Athletic Director Mr. Don Saine, who serves as head football and baseball coach, has been Athletic Director at Huss for six years. He succeeds in providing a sports program that exhibits great competitiveness and school spirit. 22 Guidance Counselors Mr. Dean Brown, who is in his first year at Muss, counsels sophomores and heads the Student Government Association. He also serves as the advisor of the Inter-Club Council. The Aslron staff welcomes Mr. Brown, who is sure to contribute greatly to the office staff. Mr. F.d Barnes informs juniors and seniors of career and educational opportunities. He also coordinates the course selections of all students and works with student schedules. Mrs. Helen Thomason counsels students, particularly seniors, on college preferences, career choices, and college requirements. Some of her responsibilities include sending transcripts, computing class rank, and administering the S.A.T. The students have appreciated her work in various activities. In addition to her involvement in many school clubs, she has been an asset to the Hunter staff and has given her support to the athletic program by serving as cheerleader. In his three years at Huss, BUDDY FERGUSON has become actively involved in all phases of school life. Huss appreciates his dedication to the football team for three years as well as his contributions to various club activities. He attended Boys State as a junior and has served on the Astron staff in his senior year. Buddy is truly a student of many interests. AI.I.ISON CAIN has worked willingly and continuously in her years at Huss. As a member of the Astron staff, a member and officer of a number of school clubs, and the tennis team, she has shown her dedication to the school. Allison certainly represents an outstanding senior. The Huss students have recognized UAL CAUSE as a very creative and energetic student. Because of his interest and talent in drama, he attended the summer session of the N.C. School of Arts. I am happy that the annual has been completed, but 1 also regret that all the good times we have had producing it arc coming to an end. Being editor of the ASTRON has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I have enjoyed working with each of the other staff members to produce ASTRON 78. Each person has shown much enthusiasm and a united sense of responsibility. Everyone has always been eager to give the most of himself to make this edition of the ASTRON a success. To the entire staff, I say thank you, for you arc truly the ones who produced this yearbook. I would also like to give a special thanks to our advisors, Mrs. Harrill and Mr. Stuart, for their constant guidance and support. Without them, this annual would not have been possible.
