SIXTH TERM So we had The PoeTry ReciTal, and six majors, and Tour regenTs, and spring weaTher in April. Does iT maTTer? ThaT's The year we won Sing!!! You don'T have To ask us To Tell you all abouT iT, iusT Try To sTop us. Did we pracTise in convenTional, sane places as did oTher years? NoT we! We rehearsed in slips in a DemocraTic Club one hoT Sunday aTTernoon and aT a kind mama's house 'Til midnighT anoTher Time. We wroTe Sing words around The reservoir, and sewed cosTumes in cluTTered bedrooms sans shoes. We spenT EasTer vacaTion wiTh moisT brows and drooping coihfeurs inspiraTing. We even called lnTormaTion To see whaT she ThoughT oT our Theme While The CiTy Sleeps. We also picked up a loT oT deTails abouT Peckham's EscorT Bureau Tor our miscellaneous song. lT's a piTy They wenT ouT oT business beTore prom. BUT our name is on The plague ThaT is hidden behind some nondescripT pile oT books somewhere in The library. We had a VicTory Dinner Too. and we've been singing Sing aT every opporTuniTy since. SEVENTH TERM ln sevenTh Term, we were allowed To choose our poison, and our elec- Tives were a consTanT source oT joy-unTil The midTerm marks came back! THIRD TERM ln Third Term we were beginning To worry seriously abouT a World WiThouT Men. And we were Told ThaT iT was, as Tar as prom was con- cerned. Our own world was considerably increased by an inTlux oT Te- males Trom junior high school. We were considered old enough To learn The TacTs oT liTe. and in room 93 we Tound ThaT . . . There was a skeleTon in The closeT! We weren'T allowed To walk upsTairs buT were Torced To walk down. A Tew oT The heaven-Tavored Transcended To Paradise Alley Trom Slum Row. Our vocabulary was expanded To include Je ne sais pas and Ich weiss nichT. We learned To love W.P.A. workers, Tor oTTen Their drilling would drown ouT wrong answers, lengThy homework assignmenTs. and The like. CooperaTive living was The Thing Then-whaT wiTh communiTy books, lockers, and desks. Around January we began exchanging Tirm vows oT eTernal Triendship wiTh Those oT us who were being senT up The river. . . . and so wiTh sad hearTs Two classes bid Tarewell To The beloved visTa oT our loTTy Paradise Alley as iT sTands in silenT splendor ouT near The TreighT elevaTors, and wend Their way To The old Alma MaTer down on FirsT Avenue. We provided a prom commiTTee, and The prom commiTTee has since pro- vided us wiTh everyThing buT The escorTs. We parTicipaTed in an lnTra- School FesTival, which Turned ouT To be someThing really inTral German sTudenTs sang in The LaTin Sing, French sTudenTs danced The Viennese WalTz, and anyone who had The slighTesT inTeresT in science ioined The DramaTic Club. ThaT year They Tinished Tilming Gone wiTh The Wind, and DocTor Brown began buying up supplies Tor The . . . sh . . . New Building. EIGHTH TERM Spring and no Sing! Prom and no escorT, WashingTon and no cherry blossoms, Freshmen and no naiveTe. CommencemenT and no diploma! We all developed inTo ediTors or presidenTs of someThing or oTher. Girls who had never shown Their Taces aT Term meeTings before began To come and Talce an acTive parT. Now The big sisTers were we, and we were selling TiclceTs To a new kind oT proiecT-Three plays insTead oT The usual Tour.
