Wrestling entered its fourth season at Hun with seven of eleven weight classes lierthed by lettermen. The squad shaped up with a llurry of exercises in training for the opener against Pingry. Revealing weaknesses in the lighter weight departments, our matmen dropped that one, 7 to 34. After the holidays a foray into Pennsylvania met with tough opposition from a superior George School. Co-captain Keffer battled the George captain to a draw as our team was edged, 16 to 28. Hun's first win came on the icy shores of Tom's River as the Raiders took Admiral Far- ragut, 30 to 23. It was a toss-up until co- captain Paul Savidge pinned his man in the climactic bout. Every match, in fact, was a pin for one team or the other except Pat Donohue's 2-O decision in the 147 pound class. Although we dropped mid-winter matches to B.M.l., Peddie, St. Andrews, and Blair, we could usually count on wins by Chuck Smith, the Savidges, and newcomer Steve Rose. Highlights of the Blair contest were KeFfer's second period pin of his opponent after a three week hiatus due to a knee injury, and John Ward's heroic 0-4 loss to his friend, Meinig, state champ and captain of the Bwair squad. Keyed up lor revenge of our football loss to Delbarton, the Hun grapplers Qsix of them pigskin veteransj were content to blank St. Bernarcls when the Delbarton match was can- celled. Eight of that contest's eleven pins oc- curred in the first minute of the first period to earn us L1 55 to 0 score. We dropped a close 17 to 20 engagement to Tower Hill but rebounded in an impressive triumph over Pennington, 39 to 6, to climax the regular season and propel us into the State Meet. Here we had hopes for individual honors in at least five divisions. For a team perhaps not yet firmly entrenched in the hearts of its schoolmates. it was a season of many individual rewards, occasional team victories, and bright hopes shared by Coach Spencer for more brilliant seasons to come.
