Student Council Left to right, standing: S. Topping, G. Parker, Advisor D. Borlen, S. Hess, J. Lavan, G. Hilton seated: D. Conole, G. Griggs, R. Mudd, J. Herman, W. Patty. The student council, 1954-'55, consists of twelve members: one from the eighth form, two from the ninth, tenth and eleventh forms, and five from the twelfth form. All of these people are elected by the individual forms except the council's president Bob Mudd, the council's secretary Bill Patty, and the president of the senior class George Griggs. They were appointed by last year's exiting senior council members and Dr. Chesebro. Each member has one vote ex- cept the eighth grade representative. The council 's main functions are arrang- ing social engagements such as dances and discussing suggestions that are volunteered to council members at class meetings. Mr. Douglas Borlen is present at all meetings representing the faculty, All suggestions, passed by the council at their meetings, are then sent on to the faculty for consideration. If passed by the faculty these measures be- come effective throughout the school. Disciplinary measures that are handled by the student body are taken care of by the five senior members of the council who compose the executive committee. This committee interviews some disciplinary cases that otherwise would be sent to the faculty. This not only saves the faculty from the chore of reviewing the cases of minor infringements, but also gives the executive committee an important responsibility. Major cases of misconduct, along witha recommendation are referred to the faculty by the committee. This committee also acts like the cabinet of the council meeting with Dr. Chesebro and Mr. Borlen, the student council's advisor, before the regular meet- ing of the student council. At these closed meetings, the boys discuss questions con- cerning the school that their maturity war- rants, but that could not bediscussed effect- ively in front of the council. The executive committee as well as all council members can always meet with Mr. Borlen in order to straighten out problems that may arise. i
