lunior Varsity Basketball Left to right, back row: G. Cramer, B. Beckmann, J. Cerutti, D. Wood, Coach D. Janng front row: I-I. Smith, D. Keffer, R. Edwards, S. Hess, J. Cantwell.. Hun's J. V. basketball team hadarecord that any team can be proud of. This was the best J.V. team to represent Hun in the past few seasons. The J.V.'s opened their season at night against Solebury and won, After this show- ing they kept fighting and winning by taking on George School the following week. Soon after the George School victory they again showed their good quality, by-defeating the Bryn Athyn J. V.'s. But, all good things must come to an end, and they lost their first game to the J. V. team from B. M. l. by one point. A week later the traveled to Wilmington, Del. to defeat a taller Tower Hill J. V. by 6 points. The J. V.'s later played Peddie. They led most of the game but found them- selves tied up with 5 seconds to go in the game. Two foulshots then broke the tie and gave Hun the victory. A while later these two teams played again with Hun again com- ing out on top. Bob Edwards was elected their season's team captain. ln the last game they bowed to George School J. V. by a narrow margin. The fine spirit of the 'team plus the competent leadership of coach Don Jann proved to be a winning combination for Hun. Hun 52 Stevens Trade 39 The Hun School defeated Stevens Trade for their first victory of the season. Mitch Einzig scored fourteen points in the first half as Hun built up a commanding lead. The game was whittled down to a close contest in the second half by the opposition, but due to the rebounding of Forsyth, Pearson, and Anderson, and four quick baskets by Jim Lavan, Hun was able to maintain their lead. Lavan led the scoring with twenty-two points followed by Einzig with twenty points. Hun 71 Croydon Hall 61 Hun's fifth win of the season came by defeat- ing Croydon Hall. The game saw four Hun players enter the double figures' column. Jim Lavan led the scoring with twenty-one points, Bob Apple- gate followed with fourteen points, then came Holden with eleven points, and Einzig with ten points. The opposition led 16-12 at the end of the first period, but due to quick second quarter baskets by Hold n and Einzig, the gap was nar- rowed dow points at half time. In the third quarter Hun completely outclassed their opponents and went on to certain victory. Hun 63 George School 55 Hun's sixth win of their campaign took place at George School and was Hun's last game of the season. Due to the all around playing of the entire team, Hun was able to overcome a first half tie and go on to defeat George School. Jim Lavan, with his deadly foul shooting, led the scoring with twenty-four points. His defensive work was also a key factor in the victory. Ball- hawking defensive work by Mitch Einzig, who also contributed sixteen points to the cause, helped pave the way for victory. Baskets by Bill Holden at crucial points in the game gave the team that necessary lift. He scored nine points in the game. Chuck Barren, a freshman, came through when he was needed most. Forsyth, Pearson, and Anderson, who provided the back- board strength, were also key factors in the victory. For the first year in its history, the Hun School of Princeton has put into competi- tion a soccer team. The team performed rather well, even though it was the first soccer team to be formed by Hun. Boys from other countries, as well as boys from the U.S.A,, worked together to make the team successful. Each one contributed his share of the work by attending every daily practice, conducted by Coach George For- ner, at present attending the Princeton Theological Seminary. As may be seen by the record, the coach was successful in teaching the many boys who were on the soccer field for the first time even the fine points of the game. As the time approached for the first game, the team had gained a great deal of confidence in themselves, and the team asa whole. After the first game the boys had enough confidence to take them through a successful season. The team was composed of boys from the following countries, U.S.A., Colombia, Arabia, Venezuela, Italy, Mexico, and Panama. The most exiting game of the season was played under adverse weather conditions. In this game, during which Hun defeated Solebury 4-3, George Castro was the out- standing player, as he scored all four goals. Won4 - Tiedl - Lost2 Hun 1 Pennington H. S. 0 Home Hun 2 Princeton H.
