Varsity Basketball Left to right, back row: G. Hilton, W. Pearson, A. Forsyth, Coach R. Ballg front row: W. Holden, C. B3-1' 1' env R- APP19g2-fe, J. Lavan, W. Anderson, M. Einzig, K. Zauber, l --.iff-7-3 This year's Hun School basketball team ended the season with a record not 'indicating the true ability of the team members, for in all but three of the games they were at aheight disadvantage. Furthermore, every opponent Hun faced had an enrollment three times that of Hun's. In view of these odds, the squad turned afairly respect- able record. The team was coached for the first time by Mr. Robert Ball. He worked diligently with the boys, and toward the end of the season they be- gan to show the trademarks of a well-coached ball club. Led by Captain Jim Lavan, the Hun School basketball squad showed tremendous spirit 48 throughout the season. There was never a min- ute when a player lacked hustle. The season was filled with many close con- tests. ln the Solebury game, Hun lost by only two points in a double overtime. In fact, five of the eleven were lost by a total of only fifteen points. The high spot of the season occurred during the final game with George School. Since it was the final game for the seniors and George School was Hun's number one rival, a great de- sire for victory was present in both clubs. Hun had been beaten by this same team earlier in the season. With one hundred percent teamwork, Hun went on to defeat George School.

Hun 14 Morristown 13 This was Hun's best game of the season. Each teammate worked his hardest. We gained the lead in the second quarter as Bill Holden snared an Edwards' pass and bulled his way into the end zone for Hun's first touchdown of the season. Holden followed his six-pointer with a conversion. This gave Hun a seven point edge. Later on the score had been 7-6 for a short time, Bob Applegate intercepted a pass setting up a score for Wayne Anderson. Holden again converted making it 14-6. Having an eight point advantage Coach Ball emptied the bench during the last minute of the game. Hun 12 Solebury 6 This match was held on the muddy Hun School gridiron. Solebury being our traditional rival our boys did their best and upset the prev- iously undefeated team. Dave Keffer was the stellar performer as he intercepted a pass and reeled off eight eight yards for a score, winning the game for Hun. Hun 0 Byrn Athyn 20 Hurricane Hazel was the deciding factor in this tilt, for Hun couldn't use its passing attack in the raging wind. The opponents were prim- arily a running outfit and demonstrated it, al- though we almost equaled them in total yardage gained. The outstanding performer for Hun was Ken Hovey with his exceptional defensive work. The opposition led 16-12 at the end of the first period, but due to quick second quarter baskets by Hold n and Einzig, the gap was nar- rowed dow points at half time. In the third quarter Hun completely outclassed their opponents and went on to certain victory. Hun 63 George School 55 Hun's sixth win of their campaign took place at George School and was Hun's last game of the season. Due to the all around playing of the entire team, Hun was able to overcome a first half tie and go on to defeat George School. Jim Lavan, with his deadly foul shooting, led the scoring with twenty-four points. His defensive work was also a key factor in the victory. Ball- hawking defensive work by Mitch Einzig, who also contributed sixteen points to the cause, helped pave the way for victory. Baskets by Bill Holden at crucial points in the game gave the team that necessary lift. He scored nine points in the game. Chuck Barren, a freshman, came through when he was needed most. Forsyth, Pearson, and Anderson, who provided the back- board strength, were also key factors in the victory.
