BAD Under our new director, Mr John Hayes, the band had an enrollment of 14.14 for the year The marching season highlights were playing the salute to the flag at each of the home football games, performing at half time with precision drilling and playing, and leading the Homecoming Parade The band also went to the Football Jam boree at Murray, Pancake Day at Centerville, the Flremen's Con vention at Charlton, the American Legion Convention at Garden Grove, the Drake relays, the Marching Band Contest at Ottumwa, where we received a ll rating The drum majorette was Jane Ellen Sponsler, and the twirlers were Mary Lou Trilser, Lay ola Williamson, Janet Paugh, and Judy Porterfield The concert band season was hi hlivhted by a concert at Christmas time, and again in the spring on April 30 The County Music Festival was held here this year, and 12 members from Humeston participated The concert band also went to contest at Lorimor At the Solo and Ensemble Contest Humeston was represented by Dottie Lou Satorius, french horn solo, Charles Exley, Car lene Jensen, Alberta Johnson, and Donna Smith, clarinet quar tet, Mary Caldwell, flute, Donna Smith, clarinet, Arda Jenni son, oboe, Eugenia Evans, bassoon, and Dottie Lou Satorius, french horn, for the woodwind quintet The french horn solo received a l rating, and thexclarinet quartet received a ll rat ln e ghe members lost by graduation are Carlene Jensen and Donna Smith, clarinet, Rheta Garton, saxophone, and Tom Mer- .,1 1, Q ,,,, ,, L-R: Janet Paugh, Mary Trisler, Jane Ellen SpOY1S10I'v Layvla Williamson, and Judy Porterfield
