WIIDDIBAGI ANNAIQS GRADE CHAMPIONS First row Carroll Coombes Donald Clark Kenneth Esham Nelson McMullen Everett Underkofler Jr Second row Marcella Johnson Norma Forsythe Joan Julian fCheer leadersj Bobby Denbo Sammy Overton Gordon Moore Leon Meehan Mike Carr Mr Under kofler Although this grade team was not a part of the high school sports we felt lt proper to include them as excellent prospective material for next year s hlgh school team Smce they uon the countv grade tournament this year surely they will be good help ln future high school games No small part of the success of the team was played by their three cheer leaders who backed then' team in every game GIRLS PHYSICAL EDUCATION First row Helen Barrett Katheryn Coombes June Heath Dorothy Hutton Dorothy Mae Hmes Second row Miss DeAtlev Mary Hill Thelma Quxllen Barbara McNeese Patty Ed wards Cora Jane Coombes Third row Waneta Smith Mildred Brown Dorothy Jean Wright Alice Compton Dorothy Barrett Jane Hill Physlcal Education is becoming more and more important for glrls as well as boys This year for the flrst time ue have had Glrls' Physical Education class every day of the school week This is reallv required by law of all high schools ln Illmols balanced program lncludln XRTIOUS types of ball archery callsthenlcs clock golf and different klnds of contest games Lectures on health and first ald also formed a part of the program SPORTS BY BILL AND PAT Scottland at Hume Hume started their basketball season off on November 9 1945 losmg both games to Scottland Our second team was defeated 31 to 20 Scottland s flrst team was fortunate also running 47 to 37 Blind Tourney In the second game of the blind tourney we were defeated by Brocton 50 to 30 The next night we met Scottland and were be Iten 30 to 18 ln a low scoring game Hume at Allerton Hume travelled to Allerton on November 19th and were beaten both games Our -.econd team was defeated 34 to 7 w hlle the first team was beaten 59 to 15 Westfield at Hume The next night Westfield Journeyed to Hume and won both games The second team game was close but Hume was beaten 15 to 13 In the first team game we were beaten 49 to 40 by a tough VVestf1eld team Hume made 6 pomts ln the last 6 mlnutes but this wasn't quite enough to to overcome Westfleld s sufficient lead Chrlstman at Hume The Chrlstman seconds beat our second team 15 to 10 ln a fast and furious game tzlgat was close and exciting all the way Our fir t team was also unfortunate losmg to 19 Ashmore at Hume The next game was with one of the best teams m the Ambraw Ashmore They :honed us that by beating us 55 to 23 Our seconds were unlucky also losmg 21 o County Tourney Hume drew the bye ln the first round thus meeting Redmon who had won over Brocton Redmon had a good team and we were beaten 49 to 30 Mattingly and Hlbserman led the scoring with fifteen pomts each Metcalf at Hume In the flrst game of the evening the seconds beat Metcalfs seconds 19 to 16 in an exciting game from start to fmsh Our first team lost though 34 to 22 '33 A : i D Y Y , . v 1 I 7 9 A 1 1 1 r s 1 ' ' . . , . . . . , . MVIILIIIDQIEACIII ANNALS SPORTS BY BILL AND PAT fCont1nuedl Allerton at Hume Hume agam met Allerton on the home floor December 18th and were beaten both games but not so badly as m the flrst encounter Our second team was beaten 28 to 15 and our flrst team was defeated 71 to 35 Boyd led the scorlng wlth 29 pomts Hmdsboro at Hume Our seconds were agam defeated by a superior Hmdsboro team 25 to 12 Thelr flrst team also beat Hume s by the score of 43 to 24 Hume at Brocton Hume traveled to Brocton on December 23rd and were beaten twxce The second team showed a good ame but we were beaten 33 to 22 The next game was the most cxcxtxng At one tlme the score was tled up but two of our players fouled out and we were beaten The fmal score xx as Brocton 38 Hume 24 Redmon at Hume We played Redmon on January 4th and were defeated agaxn ln both games The second team was beaten 42 to 7 Our fxrst team came closer to wmmng losing 21 to 34 They mlght have done better lf a couple of boys hadnt whxspered ln the assembly Hume at Ashmore Hume traveled to Ashmore on January 10th and came mlghty close to wmmng At one t1me we were leadmg 14 to 7 but then Ashmore got hot and we were defeated 37 to 28 The Hume seconds added another vlctory by defeatmg Ashmore 25 to 7 Hume at Metcalf On January 18th we traveled to Metcalf and were beaten 37 to 23 Hume got off to a poor start and we were behmd 12 to 3 at the quarter Our second team won though 23 to 19 m a close game Ambraw Tourney We met Redmon ln the thlrd game of the Ambraw Tourney and were defeated 60 to 29 Hlbsman and Mattmgly agaln made the pomts Brocton at Hume On January 30th Brocton won both games In the second team game the score was t1ed many txmes but Brocton won out 25 to 20 The flrst team game was also close all the way but the fmal score read Brocton 39 Hume 33 Hume at Scottland Thls was the mght we had waxted for Hume won We defeated Scottland 37 ahead 5 to 0 But soon Hume tarted hxttlng the basket and at the quarter the score Hume 12 Scottland 5 From then on xt was close w1th Hume wlnmng out Our second team was also successful wlnmng 29 to 28 Hume had only four men on the floor when the fxnal whlstle blew The cause was too many players foullng out Hume at Westfield Hume went to Westfleld on February 5th and was beaten by thelr flrst team 45 to 30 In the second half botl' teams scored the same amount of pomts Our second team once more vsas vlctorlous Wlflfllng 20 to 19 in a very close game Hume at Chrlsman On February 8th Hume went to Chrlsman to play Our seconds won agaln 21 to 19 Thls wm made 5 out of the la t 6 games Our flrst team vsas beaten 50 to 21 by a tall Chrlsman bunch Hume at Redmon Hume played Redmon on February 11th at Redmons gym Both Hume teams were turned back by the mlghty Redmon outfxt In the second team game Hume was leadlng most of the txme but at the fmal whlstle the score stood Redmon 24 Hume 21 In the flrst team game Hume started out once more In the lead but couldn t hold lt The fmal score was Redmon 74 Hume 41 DlStFlCt Tourney Hume met Metcalf m the first game of the dlstrlct at Sldell and was beaten 50 to 45 The score was pretty well even the flrst quarter but at the half Metcalf had 26 to 19 Wxth 4 mmutes of playmg tlme left the score was Metcalf 46 Hume 38 Hume then spurted and brought us w1th1n 2 pomts of Metcalf wlth 46 seconds left Metcalf then made another basket and lt was all over makmg the fmal score read Metcalf 50 Hume 46 'ii 1 ' A D ' . . . , . . 1 g ' I .
