X . ... - -.slnnm--- aZslS-u1u1.-.u-oun- - w ,...-f '.p-'.,' REVIEW QF THE SEASON The Humboldt High School Comets started the season off with a bang as they won their first eight games before being downed by the Flamdgeau Indians at the invitational tournament held at Arlington New Years Day. Among their first eight victims were included: Hartford, Chester, Bridgewater, Montrose, Canistota, Spencer,1 I Salem, and Madison. They suffered their first defeat at the invitation al tournament at Arlington January lst as they were de- feated 25-l9 by the flashy Flandreau Indians. The Comets then went out and took consolation honors from the Madi- son Bulldogs E5-l6. The team then won 6 straight games before entering the District 22 Tournament at Bridgewater. After losing a 22-21 decision to Bridgewaterin the semi finals, the Comets swamped the Spencer Cardinals 44-22 to capture consolation honors of the tournament. Humboldt advanced into the semi finals by defeating Canistota 54-27 and the Marion Bears 37-20. In finishing their games for the season the Comets took two games from the Marion Bears, split two games with Sioux Falls Cathedral, and then swamped the Bridge- water Wildcats to capture the Corn Belt Conference Championship. The Humboldt High School Comets set a record for future teams to shoot at by winning 22 out of 25 games played. Another record that will be hard to beat is that of winning all of their conference games during the 1956 37 season. The following players were honored by being chosen for the All-Conference and All-District teams, Bob Goodbarn ...... All-Conference and All-District Center Mike Even ........................... At the beginning of the l956-37 season, it was very apparent that no one player would nave e position assured on the second team. Practically all of the players on the previous team had graduuted or were then members of the regular High School squad. The team was chosen from Freshmen and Sophomore classes with the exception of two upper classmen. As most of the boys lived in rural homes their practicing time was limited only to noon hours.Consistent practice enable the teen to cbnptto with Hceuna i,.gl of otncr schools on the sumo np,nt that our izrst term pllyed against tue first team of ine sqm, scnooi. -47-
