On Tuesday, after victories in both their sophomore and ju- nior years, the seniors won the Super Powder-Puff game thus setting an unprecedented three-year victory record. On Thursday the big homecoming coronation was held in our new auditorium at 7:30 P.M. The dance followed in the gym. Friday, October fifth, saw the introduction of the first annual Football Spirit Day. An assem- bly highlighted the day. The week-long festivities ended at Harding stadium on Friday night as many alumni and pre- sent students gathered to watch the Indians win a cliff- hanger from Central. The final score - 15 to 14. Bri- gadoon materializes only under special circum- stances, and only when desperately needed. The town folk, oblivious to their transient nature, wel- come the two lost hunters and proceed to make them feel at home. The hunters soon have misgiv- ings about the queer going's on, but are at a loss to explain what has happened to them. In spite of his unwillingness, Tommy falls in love with Fiona tLori Martin and Kathy Littfinl, only to have to face an unwanted separation. The task of choosing a script, cas- ting the parts, making up, costum- ing, rehearsing, and presenting the finished play is an arduous under- taking according to Mr. Robert McGregor, Humboldt little theater director. Time is always so pressing a factor, and the problem is compli- cated by other demands made upon the few who have the courage to act. Almost the entire cast of Home Sweet Homicide were committed in one way of another to several school functions and some to outside activities. It is surely to the credit of these fine young peo- ple that the play was so ably pre- sented. The Humboldt thespians are to be congratulated for their fine work. Limping from deadline to deadline, the LIFE staff suffered as did some of the athletic teams from lack of bench strength. Those who helped to produce this book were, as usual, the same students who make most of the oth- er things that happened here this year go. It is not easy to divide your time between plays, athletic teams, operettas, cheer leader meet- ings and doing something as ho-hum as yearbook making. It is hoped that we have spelled your name right and that your picture is not upside down. If you have some criticism to make of the book, won't you join us next year. It is good to pass the happiness around. john, Val and Fred agonize over another page. 91 COLOR GUARD ROW 1: Doreen Aeilts, Debbie Kammerer, Sue Kegler, Brenda Drinnin Kathy Rowe Carolyn Smith Denise Burg and loan Kegler ROW 2: Linda Steichen, Mary Budziszewski, Sandy Sussner Julie Norton Pam Bredehoft lean Dwyer Gay Westfall and Nancy Norton. Almost any afternoon during the lengthy marching season you have to take your chances in the second floor hall, the first floor hall, the third floor hall, or almost anywhere else. lf you're agile enough, you may escape being knocked on the head by flying flat staffs or trampled under the marching feet of the cadence-minded color guard. The band traveled the city over, participating in both civil and religious concerts. In addition there were the several con- certs given at Humboldt in which the band proved excel- lent audience reaction follows excellence of execution. The whole school is justly proud of the band. They are supported not only by the participation of the students, but by the fine band-parents who give so many hours of their time to see that band activities flourish. This year instrumental music at Humboldt was broadened to include an introductory course in guitar. The future will, no doubt, see additional instrumental programs imple- mentd here. 98 h VARSITY CLUB . ROW 1: Joe Letoureneau, Tim Eccles, Ken Meyer, Mike Munos, Dennis Deeb, Robbie Leas. A service minded organization, the Varsity club is open to varsity letter winners who are dedicat- ed to the improvement of athletics and the sup- port of school activities inygeneral. Membership in the club is not terminated when the athlete graduates. Instead, these young athletes antici- pate keeping in touch with sports programs at Humboldt and subsequently with one another in maintaining the winning tradition. Though letter clubs are a common thing in colleges and high schools throughout the country, we are particu- larly proud of the support and encouragement members ofthe Humboldt Varsity Club have al- ways given the school. Ludwig, Principal Looking across Baker Street upon the shambles of broken buildings - the rubble of what was -- we cannot help being thrilled by the materialization of our dreams of a new school. At the same time we are saddened a little by what changes have been made in the lives of the many families who once came home to what is now a chaos of mud and debris. We extend our sympathy and thanks to those we've dispossessed. But as the poet says, the old order changes, making way for new . . . Surely all this gloom of clearing away foreshadows the ad- 4 vance of good as well as progress. We do indeed look for- ward with enthusiasm and hope for the new school which will soon rise - a school in which both students and area residents will take great pride. It is for those of us in the present building to make sure that the new school will be more than sound and beautiful in structure. It must also be administered wisely and taught with excellence. The ad- ministration and faculty of the present Humboldt pledge themselves with dedication to the fulfillment of the trust placed in them. The new school will be good in all respects. gnu.--1' 5 Qs --...A Mr. john Ettlinger, Assistant Principal Humboldt is a friendly school from its top administrator to its lowest underclassmen. lf there is ever conflict in our midst, it is accidental and temporary. We are always more happy to help one another than to reprimand. Q Each of us faces opportunity every day. Humboldt has always tried to make use of all its resources to work for the good of the individual student. When we fall upon hard times, the assistant principal seeks to bring about improvement. Too often overlooked are the positive aspects of corrective measures. It is well to measure dis- N, cipline by its ultimate objective. Mr. Frank Rhome, Administrative Assistant 105 df-V MR.
