Kracaw. 30 Fall Homecoming Nuke the Vaqueros! Coach Billingsley leads cheers at bonfire. Fall Homecoming .. . What a success! We participated in a variety of dress-up days including future day, fisherman and hunting day, formal day, baby day, and, of course, Blue and Gold day. On Wednesday we tramped out of school to gather on the football field for a L.H.S. picture tsee page 72-73. After school the car smash exploded with true Buckaroo spirit. That night festivities continued with the skit night, followed by the snake dance out to the fairgrounds. A very rousing bonfire assembled many students. Friday at the football games, queen candidates Paula Cannon, Debbie Cathey, and Michon Curutchet nervously waited for the word of who had won while Mr Velasquez kissed a pig. A roar over the loud speaker proclaimed Paula, queen. A dance in honor of homecoming week brought the evening to an end. What an excellent way to end a week of homecoming celebration! Ms. Hill, where did you learn to hoola hoop?? Opening 9 90 Faculty First of all I would like to thank Mrs. Cunningham and the students of the yearbook staff for this opportunity. It is a pleasure to be able to express my feelings concerning this position and the responsi- bilities that go with it. I To be principal is to be many things, to many different people, involved in a variety of situations. I can not begin to list all of those situations I encounter on a daily basis; however, I can describe those that give me the most satisfaction. The primary objective of any high school is to meet the needs of 1 our young men and women. This particular function entails all 01 I what the principal must be. All decisions should, in my opinion, reflect student needs relative to their academic and social well- I being. I can not think of anything that brings me as much pleasure as finding success in some way when meeting student needs. Along with meeting student needs, I love the opportunity to interact l with students, teachers, and parents. This relationship can be enjoyable, regretable and, on occasion, down right miserable! But whatever it can be, it is interesting and worthwhile if we are to I improve the quality of education provided at Lowry. I find this I mixture of philosophies and opinions to be the element that binds i education together, without this sharing of knowledge we could not meet student needs as well as we do. To take part in the lives of our young people is an extra not normally mentioned in the principal's job description. I learn from their ups and downs, their youthful vitality and IInew wisdom and, above all, I their personalities. Each and every student has something to share which makes Lowry High School what it is today. I personally i believe Lowry High is an outstanding institution and much of the credit goes to the students. I can only hope that in some small way we can return to the students a dividend for their contribution. lmentioned earlier the interacton between myself and the teaching staff and how important this relationship is to our success Obvi- ously, teachers are vital to the system and in fact, without them, a quality education would be only a dream. It is exciting to watch positive and effective teaching techniques make a difference in a student's life; it is this aspect of my responsibilities that is most rewarding. I find my days are made better as a result of our roles, teachers and administrators, becoming one and the same-we may have different responsibilities but the education of Humboldt's young people is our only role. In closing, I would like to say how much I appreciate the contribu- tion of so many in making this a super year. It has been one to remember and I thank you all for a job well done.
