So far! 1N4 of the class has made some effort toward this. They placed first during Christmas time for their decorations of the history area. Those participating on this project were Jerry Thompson, Mark Gough, Gina Jenista, Debi Echeverria, Dani Baum, Barbara Nash, Monty Hansen, Curtis Betz, Dani Higley, and Debbie Herrera, During Homecoming, their hoat placed third But their Homecoming skit never made it off the ground. It was a disaster as was their hot chocolate sale which netted them a whole 75 cents But with a lot of eftort and big mouths, they got the spirit stick a couple of times for yelling the loudest in pep assemblies. senior trip was taken on May 25 and 26 to Marriottts Great America, situated in California. A school bus was taken to Reno, then a plane from Reno to San Jose, and hnally numerous cabs were taken to the Holiday Inn where they were greeted with a personal welcome on the marquee. The afternoon and evening activities were swimming and visiting a nearby shopping plaza where students shoppedt dlSCOGd, pizzaed, moviedr etc. All day Saturday was spent at Marriottts enjoying the vast amusement park. The track season produced outstanding results from several individuals David Elizondo set a school record in the triple jump going a distance of 40'31w'2H. He was also a strong competitor in the pole vault with a best efTort of 123W John Gerhart set a school record in the 330 intermediate hurdles with a time of 43.6 sec. He competed in the high hurdlesl 440 relay and the mile relay as well. Mike Harmon proved a versatile track and held athlete as he competed in the 100 and 220 sprints, the 440 and mile relays, the long jump and the triple jump. Pete Buchan placed third at BYU and at state in the 440 sprints. His best time was 518 sec. Pete also competed in the 100 and 220 sprints. High Schoolt Thirteen of the graduates were honored With scholarships. The Howard Browne Freshman Scholarship of $300 UNR went to Colleen Holt. Valedictorian Itxaso Obieta received three scholarships, induding the Community Club's Valedictorian Rolfe Schwartz was the recipient of two scholarships, Scholarship of $235, the Max C. For their dinner they had charcoal broiled steaks accompanied by baked potatoes basque beansl salads, breads, and topped with cake for dessert. Grabbing all the tickets were Jan and Lisa. Burning all the steaks were Wade, Tony, Tim, and helping them was Mr. George himself. The rest of the crew were helping with serving and food preparations. All in all it turned out to be delightful. parent member banquet An annual event in which all members bring their parents. This year as a guest speaker they had Dr. Ron Squires from the U. of NV. He presented members with awards that they had accomplished during the State Convention. They also installed new ofhcers for 1979-1980 school year. The State Convention this year was held in Reno.
