The Honor Society with Mrs. Gribble and Mr. Porter as adviser had a super year. In November the Honor Society began holding bake sales oifering homemade cookies and candies before school, during both lunches, and after school a practice that continued before each nonday in the school year, which encouraged them to try their luck with a spring Do-Nuc Sale. Student Council Officers prepared for their active year by attending a 3 day workshop in Las Vegas where they learned the business of student government and played a lot at, Circus Circus. At home they carried this varied experience into planning both Football and Basket- ball Homecaming activities, and devising a rotation system for their meetings whereby all members attended each time and all organizations WETE equally represented. The Science Club started the year with a skit for homecoming and an entry in the homecoming parade. Next, they hold a raffle and sold donuts before and after school as fund raising projects. The Science Clubts main activities were working with a load testing kit obtained from the Shell Oil Company and rewriting the Club Constitution. Compliments of Western Auto FHA Has Eventful Year FIIA'S hectic year hogan at the new officer installation in October. Shortly afterward thc mombors who worked so diligently in the concession stand during football season received recognition at an awards banquet. District Round-up in Iilko and State Round-up in Reno gave the girls concrete ideas on how to become better citizens and more fulfilled people. The members also participated in various tasty candy 511195 to raise monoy for their annual banquet and their activities, Holiday 0n ICC and horso-bzlck Tiding. This past year you needed to look no further for help in solving your dilemma than the nearest VICA member with the truck raffle tickets. VICA tuned up the truck and had it in top run- ning condition for its big sale. Proceeds from this raffle and a streamer sale helped to finance members attending the State Skills Olympics contests and to provide funds for the VICA Scholarship. Fall and Spring conferences further rounded out the year's activities for V'ICA members as they expanded their knowledge of cars and their shifting problems. Art Club Holds Art Shows The Art Club, after entering a float in the homecoming parade and taking first place in the organization div- ision, held several art shows to raise money for the club treasury. One of the biggest shows was held at Christman time where original ceramics and hand- made ornaments were sold. Proceeds from art sales financed a field trip to art spots in San Francisco. Their hectic schedule included marching in the football homecoming parade and the Nevada Day Parade, per- forming halftime shows at foot- ball homecoming and the state Basketball tournaments, and presenting Christmas and spring concerts. High School Rodeo Compliments of Sewells Excitement abounded among the bronco busters and bull doggers in Winnemucca as June 19th approached. HJ- RC hosted the State 11. S. Rodeo June 19-22, an event which drew enthusiastic rodeo fans from all over Nevada and climaxed a thrilling rodeo season. The usual tempestuous events, a cutting horse and a Western Belle Queen con- test, added to the intoxica- tion of the State H. S. Rodeo. The four top winners in each event participated in the Nation High School Rodeo held in Gallop, New Mexico. 28 Songleaders Dance Up LHS Spirit Lowry Songleaders standing from left to right: Laurel Haley, Paula Mentaberry, Beth Crosby, Jana Legarza, and Janell Souza. The dedicated Lowry High Songlea- ders started getting in tune early this year be attending the Squaw Valley Songleader Summer Camp, where they placed fourth in camp competition. After school began they worked on novelty and pre- cision dance routines to be presen- ted during halftimes at games both home and away. The money for transportation to the away games was taken from their various fund raising projects. Buckarettes Attend Workshop School in August? Ugh! cried the Buckarettes, until they learned that the school would be a dance workshop meeting in Santa Barbara, CA. After a week of hard work, the Buckarettes made a side trip to Disneyland and then returned home ready for a year of dancing up school spirit. The Buckarettcs danced at halftime during home games and travelled to Manogue and Reno for basket- ball tournaments. Money raising projects included a Sadie Hawkins Dance and the raffling of a furry purple and pink stuffed elephant and a handmade afghan. But the long hours, the headaches, the writer's cramps, and even rushed deadlines became pleasant memories with the arrival of the finished product. Starting with student council app- roval of the constitution, the Spanish Club swung into full gear working hard on planning a Mcxicanbuffot din- ner, with genuine Mexican entertainment, for the 1975- 76 school calendar. Their main activity for this year was their trip to R eno for a language seminar. During this they were tested on their proficiency and given various language oriented demonstrations. The girls spent many early morning hours and late evenings bounc- ing along in a trusty yellow bus as they traveled to Eureka, Ely, Elko, and Battle Mountain for tournaments. But the only bouncing for the team on Oct, 29 occurred on the courts as Lowry hosted the volleyball tournament. During the season the team journeyed to Reno for :1 Volleyball clinic where they acquired additional skills and knowledge of volleyball. The girls' gymnastic team had four out-of-mwn meets since the the facilities are not adequate for a home meet. Their first out-of-mwn trip was February 8 in Fallon, which was more of a workshop than a meet. The meets were then held February 20 in DougIas, February 22 in Fallon, and March 1 in Douglas for state competition. This is the first year of inter- scholastic competition. Several individual honors were received as was much experience. Gymnastic meets are made up of four separate events, with each gymnast competing in each event.
