principalts message In the United States. we are firmly convinced that the American way of life is the best way of life. VVe believe in the dignity and the rights of the individual as opposed to the totalitarian con- ceptethat the state is everything and that the individual must subordinate all phases of his life to the interests of the state. At the present time there is going on in the world a gigantic conflict to determine whether the democratic or the totalitarian way of life shall prevail. The outcome of this struggle will determine whether the people of the world will live in freedom or in the bonds of servitude. The public school systems of this country will play no small part in determining the outcome of the struggle between democracy and communism. The very backbone and bulwark of democracy are enlightened and intelligent people who are able to assume and carry out the responsibilities amt ob- ligations which our way of life entails. I earnestly pray that in Humboldt County High School we have implanted in our students the seeds of justice, mercy and tolerance, which when germinated will help maize our world a better world for all mankind.
