We thank him for thou? qualities which have been invaluable in our high school days: that staunch argumentivc ability, that scholarly wit and, above all, that constant constructive ridiculing. Personal traits such as these will not be readily forgotten by any of us who have studied and played under his guidance.

l r l l l HERB HOLMAN DARLENE LOWRY Choosing the outstanding boy and girl of such a fine class was indeed a difficult task. The choice remained with the class members who, better ' than anyone, knew what members of the class deserved this honor. The two outstanding students are chosen with four major points in mind: Personality, scholastic ability, participation in activities, and leadership. Each of these qualities tanks high in the two students so honored: Darlene Lowry and Herb Holman. Darleneis diligence has earned for her the honor of being ohe of the top students of her class. Her intelligence is complemented by a friendliness which has won her many friends. Each task undertaken by her is given her careful consideration until it is finished. She has proven herself to be a capable leader by serving as class president, G.A.A. president, and editor of the 1949 Winnada. The outstanding boy of the year, Herb Holman, has not passed through the corridors of Humboldt County High School unrecognized. For, those who have known him and have worked with him, will realize that the honor is most deserved. Herb takes an active 1T1part in every club or organization of which he is a member. He has held such 0 ces as: Music club president, class president, and the highest honor of the student body, student body president. Herbis modest ways and ready smile will always be the key to his genuine friendliness. He has proven himself a cooperative student and a diligent worker. The class of 49 has made a fme choice in Darlene Lowry and Herb Holman, for from within them the traditional spirit of u49ers is brought forth to make our world and our school a better place in which to live and the class of 49 , the line class which it is.
