DEBATE CLUB There were only three Seniors enrolled in the Debate Club this yearj they were: Miss Marian Erskino, James Callahan and Jack Arant, Tryouts were held early In the season and Mias Erakine and Mr Callahan were «elected as the first team, wblle-Jilaaes Breier and Herllne were selsoted a a the Junior first t«aiw and Mr Mcrrall and frr Brackett were chosen as the Junior second team0 During the school year debates were held with Elko and Lovelock, all of which were won by our debaters. Several weeks before the state tournament, tryouts were again held and Mis a Ersktne and Mr, Callahan again won the judges decision ., Soon after this Mr , Callahan contracted the measles and, on the account of his eyes being weak, he could not participate in the coming tournamento Miss Herllne, who had had much experience in outside debates, accepted the va .» cant positions During the first day of the tournament, our debaters unanamoualy defeated both Reno and Sparks and in doing so qualified to debate against Las Vegas in the finals j For the first time in the debating history of Nevada,, two teams composed of girls met in the finals The decision of this debate was two to one, in fav or of Las Vegas Although we did not win the Btate cham- pionship, the debating season for the school year 1935 and 1934 was one of the most success. ful debating season ever experienced by our school,.
