Activities . Athletics Elementary Advertising Diana Kilpatrick and Andy Yates, seniors Attendants And Escorts Kelli Beaver and Matthew Walls, freshmen Buffy Whitekiller and Billy Welch, sophomores Kari Fisher and Jason Mayfield, seventh Rhonda Jones and James Chaffin, eighth Rider Pride Rider Pride seems to be the unofficial school motto. Pride is evident in the marquee, the air conditioning, and the new building. Jim Teague's drawings have given a new dimension to the Rider look. Participation in activities both in and out of school have helped to develop a real sense of Rider Pride. I Left: Linda Summerfield, director, Sharon Ballew, teacher, and Kathy Patterson, aide. These are the people involved in the new bi-lingual program for seventh and eighth grade students and funded by Title VII. 5 i This year the seniors got a taste of big business when they singlehandedly sponsored the Halloween Carnival. The seniors appreciate the few parents who helped and all the businesses who donated prizes. The carnival was a financial success. jLT This Is Pride! Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Henley did a superior job with the football and basketball homecoming. Later in the year they did wrestling as well. Thanks Ladies! Pictured at the top are Kari Fisher and Jason Fortner, 4- H royalty. 7 Clowning around, working, or just talking before the bell rings are sometimes the best part of school. The floats and the friendships are often remembered long after the lesson fades. 8 Almost everyone dressed up during football homecoming week. The pictures on this page are representative of those who did. Also pictured are S-Club and speech class members. 9 New Classrooms, Lighting, And Air Conditioning! 10 On February 26, 1985, the patrons of the Hulbert School District voted to issue bonds for the amount of $150,000.00 to be paid for over a period of eight years. The vote on this issue was very close, passing by only five votes. Of course, it needed a 60% majority of those voting in order to pass, but it was definitely close. The proceeds of this bond issue were to be used to install new heating along with air conditioning in the junior-senior high school, erect a new building containing four classrooms for the elementary school and install new lighting in the gymnasium. It was realized by the Board of Education that the $150,000.00 would not cover the cost of all of this, but the Board and Administration had exhibited some degree of frugality in prior years and had saved enough money to complete the work. Mr. Bob Santine, a patron of the school district and also an electrical engineer, offered his services to help with the plans on the construction. Mr. Paul Ziegenfuss, a Tulsa architect, and Mr. Ed Stone, a mechanical engineer from Bixby, offered their services to the school at a substantially reduced rate. These offers were accepted by the Board and a great deal of appreciation should be expressed by the patrons for these services. Following the completion of the plans and specifications and their approval by the State Department of Education, it was determined that bids on the work on the gymnasium would be awarded first. Bogle and Son Electric, of Tahlequah, was awarded the lighting contract and Gene Yarborough, of Muskogee, was given the contract for installation of the new doors. The total of the work done to improve the gymnasium amounted to $11,362.62. Bids were opened on the heating and air conditioning and the construction of the new classrooms on July 22, 1985, and contracts were awarded on August 7, 1985. The contract for the heating and air conditioning was awarded to the Derrick Construction Company of Tulsa at a price of $132,605.00 and the contract for the new building was awarded to Ball Building Service of Wagoner at a cost of $137,376.00. A few very minor items still need to be done on both the heating and air conditioning and the new building before the Board makes a final acceptance; however, we are using all of these things at the present time. The total cost of all of the items, including the preliminary costs, was $280,174.41, with $148,787.50 coming from the bond issue and $131,386.91 from the general fund. We feel that the improvements which have been made had a definite positive effect on the educational environment of the students of this school and that greater educational accomplishments will be made as a direct result of them. The students, the faculty, support personnel, administration, and the Board of Education want to thank the people of the Hulbert School District for their interest and support of the educational program of the Hulbert School as exhibited by their willingness to incur an indebtedness to pay for these improvements. It has developed from a group of two or three men and a 1936 fire truck into a well- trained, well-equipped group of 15 men, a tank truck, a '63 fire truck, a new $36,000 fire truck, and a $45,000 building. Money was raised through a one- cent sales tax and a weekly bingo. One person who has been largely responsible for making Hulbert s Fire Department one of the finest in the state is Chief Frank Teague. Volunteers pictured below are Teague, Leon White, Tommy Truitt, Paul Kile, Jerry Pruitt, Gary Willis, Sidney Craig, Dale Fielden, Doc Fielden, Herb Davis, Kenneth Fore, Jr., Howard Daniels, and Kenneth Fore.
