Hugoton High School was host to the Southwest Kansas league Speech Festival on March 16. Students that participated in the festival were-Freida Anderson, humorous reading: Mary Walke- meyer, humorous reading and discussiong Mae Walkemeyer, dramatic reading and informative speech: Shirley Austin, dramatic readingg Sue Lunceford, standard orationg Carol Wilkins, original orationg Alvin Feese, original orationg Jean Reynolds, discussiong Betty Fox, extempore speakingg Jeanne Baxter, extempore speaking and informative speech. One superior rating, eight excellent ratings, and five good ratings were re- ceived by the Hugoton students. Some of these same students represented Hugo- ton in the District Speech Festival at Dodge City on March 27. 'ln Q I A Ll. t il I' MARC HING BAND The Marching Band consists of 46 Members, they marched at the following: I-Iugoton--Gascapades Hutchinson--State Fair Wichita--Band Day and Home Coming Gymon--Pioneer Day Liberal--Christmas Parade Hugoton--Christmas Parade Elhart--County Fair The band has been complemented on e1r ex football ames and parades. Some of their stunts have been: Home- 8 coming they formed a heart and played Let Me Call you Sweetheart durin the crowning of the queen. At the Liberal football game Liberal S and I-Iugoton bands performed together. At Liberal the Band represented Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ' and pulled Santa Clause and His th ' cellent marching at sleigh down the street.
