5. ,rp- 'f' .f .f' .,, 'E 4, WI' l M l'L.' I X W . 1 mf, ' .gi , l gl, , ls! OUP MLRC! Our school is justly proud of its colorful band. Their flashy uniforms and snappy stepping always stands out in every parade and ball game. The Gascapades Parade the first week of school starts their activities and from then until the last senior marches up the aisle, at graduation, they are busy. Fronting the marching band this year were the twirlers: Rita Miller, Bonnie Jo Dunlap, Ginger Honn, Jessie Thompson, and the capable drum maj or Dorothy Rawlins Harper. Outstanding novelties presented this year was the Indian stunt performed at the Ulysses-Hugoton football game, the sailor stunt with Larry Lane, Jim Richardson, and George Hinch as the clown sailors, and the musical revue which was a satire on musical comedies. The Southwest League band clinic was held in Hugoton this year with Robert Buggard from the University of Wichita as director, and with over three hundred students participating . The highlight of the evening was the playing of Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. Activities which took the band out of town were the Liberal Christmas parade and football game, the State Fair, Elkhart Fair, District Music Festival, and the Cwuymon Pioneer Day Parade. The band participates in many community and school affairs and their efforts are always appreciated, but their greatest satisfaction comes from doing their best in a working organization. With the outstanding talent of the members of the band, and the capable leadership of our director, Mr. L. R. Snively, the band can look forward to even a better year of music next year.
