The hi-flying Eagles under the capable leadership of Coach Ross Estes successfully reached out and folded under their wings 1-ight victories and one tie. Four of the Hugoton Stalwarts through out tht- season battled their way into the ALL SOUTHWEST KANSAS TEAM. Ul1l'yAllSl3llll, Senior end, First Team. Harry Horton, 195 pound back, Second leani, Don Crane, Senior back and Phil Brubaker, Senior guard made llonorablt' Mention, Only a few lettermen returned from the IQQI football squad, Among the veterans were Phil Brubaker defensive line -backer and offensive guard, also captain of the team. Don Crane, co-captain and capable halfback has placed more than 1000 yards for the Eagles this season 712 Yards rushing and over 400 Passing, llarry llorton, whose chief duty was carrying the ball, was also tough on defense, llc marched for 1060 yards rushing this season and averaging 1. 36 yards per carry, Gary Ausbun, end and ace Pass receiver, Ken Stewart, defensive and offensive guard and Douglas Slagle, Offensive center. Other playing defense and offense both were Ronald Betsworth, junior and a fine end, Mick O'leary, Frosty McCoy, Dick llarris, lloh Moorehead and Marv Anderson. They did better than expected with two wins and two losses. The wins came when they trounced Elkhart and Ulysses. The losses were to Guymon and to Liberal. This fine crew of young men, ably coached by C. L. Binns is showing promise in future years. George Titus, Don Williams, and .Timmy Nordyke supplied the running attack. With Jimmy Nordyke passing, the ace pass receivers were Todd Ikard and Jay Holcomb. The running machine was ably assisted by blocking back Larry Lane and Dane Brubaker. With Linemen Gerald Sandusky, Joe Holcomb, Terry Harris, George Hinch, and Kenneth Beavers. All the boys are sophomores or freshmen and should help fill the shoes of the graduates of coach Rose Estes's tearn.
