Those of us who were here last year will immediately recognize several changes, those who are new here well I guess it s all new to them. So what9s new you ask? Well, one student got an undersened welcome hack when he was attacked by the Senior Display Panel, how is that for starting a new school year. Air. Moore has a new classroom and some new classes, he is teaching mathematics and computer in what was the Freshman locker room. Where the old Auditorium was will soon be a new library and multi-me- dia center and the old library will soon be 2 or 3 new class rooms and last years new multi-media room is now a class room. One new face that has been seen reg- ularly wandering down silent. empty hallways is the new principal', Mr. Gerald Stegall. Mr. Stegall arrived shortly before school started, coming here from Texas. I !nder his guidance the school year started quietly and smoothly. The past few years there has been considerable talk about teachers qualiTications and many new changes MS. Although there have been many set hacks related to the states financial problems and its ability to properly fund education. our teach- ers have been faced with many changes designed to meet the new emphasis on quality education. We decided to conduct a survey of our teachers at Hugo High School and see what we could learn about their educational background and teaching experience. For the past 5 years Oklahoma teachers have been required to obtain an average of 15 class hours of pro- fessional training to maintain their Teaching Certificate. Prospective MS. Strength building is a 9-10 week phase using less repetition and an increase in weight. Mass building is a 9-10 week phase using dumbbells. Power building is a 9-10 week phase using a percent of maximum weight and less repetitions. The first meet this year was with North Lamar. It consisted of lifts and running events where the best fite out of each cate- gory were entered in the runoffs. Overall Hugo did very well placing 2nd in the meet. Congratulations! There are many myths about weightlifting, one being that people in track and basketball shouldn't use weights because it will build mass and slow them down. This is not true, if the weights are used properly you can build strength with only a small amount of mass. Weightlifting is one of the best instru- ments for flexibility, if used correctly. Now if you're thinking of pumping iron here are a few tips to help you along your way. This is to have succeeded. Ralph Waldo Emerson We've all been told to set our goals many times. For each one of us it is different in that it has value in an inspirational way. Many of us still need to accept the admonition to set that goal. Because of our natures we want to put forth just as little effort as possible to accomplish those things which we have to do. All to often we are willing to let circumstances completely control our activities and we wind up taking the path of least resistance. We know that it takes alol of practice and alot of training to be outstanding in any field — athletics, music, speech, or writing. But it is easier just to slide along and not become proficientin any field even though we have capabilities in one or more things. Few people ever go any higher in their attainments than the goals they have set for themselves earlier in life. They may be capable of doing greater things, but because of that natural inclination to get by with as little effort as possible they just don't do it. Each individual must decide what he wants to be and do. and then push toward that goal regardless. The majority of us have not yet decided definitely about what we plan to do as a life's work. With a good background of knowledge we can soon make this choice. We have learned many things during our grade school and high school years, which will prove to be invaluable in helping us to make our decisions and setting our goals for the future. Through the patient leadership and guidance of our parents and teachers we have learned to work with each other both individually and collectively. We have learned something about how to study, and to concentrate. W e have acquired a good beginning background knowledge of language, math- ematics, and the social sciences. In the years ahead we will be in a good position to learn a lot more about these things. Each one of us wants to fill a place of service as we become men and women. Each wants to develop into the best possible individual that he is capable of. W e must set our goals and strive to attain them for the sake of our futures. Cheryl Hulsey 93 Autographs Autographs
