POSTER CONTEST FIFTIES DAY ESSAY CONTEST PUNK DAY (couples) PUNK DAY (Group of 5) SWEATS DAY SING ALMA MATER BLACK GOLD DAY CLASS CHEERLEADERS PARADE FLOATS TOTAL •••PARADE FLOATS RECEIVED DOUBLE POINTS spirit week Results seniors’ JUNIORS SOPHOMORES It's late August, and the old familiar sound of the school bell rings out, the crowd separates, and ever- ybody starts looking for new classrooms that we have yet to discover. The halls are crowded and everybody is loud, your nerves are on edge fearing that you won’t find your next class on time. After you finally survive the first week, the pressure eases off, your nerves settle down, and you begin to adjust to HHS and its routine. Football season is just around the corner. Enthusiasm and school SPIRIT runs high during this time and emotions run high, helping you fall in love with the old HHS spirit that you come to know and love after a short while. Sitting in the bleachers, your heart pounds and as the band begins the old familiar We're Loyal to you Hugo High ...'', your heart is in your throat and your first urge is to jump to your feet, clap your hands and shout to the top of your lungs, Hey, that's my song. As your temperature soars to heights that nobody else could survive, you sing along to the old familiar words automatically escaping from your lips. JYou don't even have to think about the words . your heart knows the words. Everyone who ever attended Hugh High or lived in Hugo, Oklahoma knows the words. Sometimes the school weeks drag by, and school work occasionally bores you to tears, but the old HHS spirit and enthusiasm is revived, and all past cares are forgotten as the old loyalty song bursts out. This school year is just fresh and new and many long months lie ahead, with many new experiences in store. When I go many miles down the road of life, I'll look back and remember the spirit and enthusiasm that was born in me during my high school years, and during times of depression or sadness, I know that these happy thoughts will brighten the darkest day that I may face. -NANCY BRYANT 8
