Buffalo Trails 1967 Hugo High School Hugo9 Oklahoma Volume XIV Every advance gives new meaning to freedom and democracy. John F. Kennedy Advance comes through education. Only through education will we be able to protect and pass on the America we have inherited— an America which stands for the equal rights of all to life, liberty, and the pursuit of hap- piness. Because we are proud to be called Ameri- cans, the theme Our American Heritage” has been chosen for this 1967 BUFFALO TRAILS. Vivian Finley Editor Foreword Contents Alma Mater Idministration Faculty mizations thletics MR. ARMSTRONG Superintendent In these turbulent times it is a privi- lege to be an American. The heritage that is ours, is great. The future of the world is in the hands of the youth of today. It is our earnest plea that they adequately prepare themselves for the challenge of tomorrow so they can continue to say with truth and pride It is great to be an American”. MISS AWBREY Secretary The changing times in which we live place an unusually high significance on the obtaining of the best education possible. Our students must be prepared for a world vastly different from that which was known only a few years ago. As we look to a truly chal- lenging future, may we make the most of each opportunity which presents itself for enhancing our capabilities to make a worth- while contribution to society. MR. As Seniors we are beginning to realize for the first time the love we have in our hearts for our school. We remember with mixed emotions all the events, large and small, that have made up our Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and finally Senior years at Hugo High School. We have learned that the only way for our class to succeed as a whole is by individ- ual support. Through the years we have worked diligently to become assets to our class, each contributing his share of loyalty, dependability, scholarship, and leadership. The remembrance of our days in Hugo High School will always remain dear to each of us. Seniors work hard to make our last throne the best. The leadership program going on in our school is to help prepare the average student of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. We are very fortunate to have such a program presented to us and to have someone that really cares about our country’s leaders for the future. Our Student Council is helping sponsor this program. Mr. Petty, Mr. Upchurch, and John Bounds are the main Hugo coordinates. There are several other schools taking part; however, Hugo is the host for the meetings. Schools repre- sented are the following: Hugo, Fort Towson, Soper, Boswell, Grant, Antlers, and Washington. The main objectives are to provide discussed. The arts and science lecture Series of OSU is staffed by teams of lecturers from outstanding faculty personnel in the many departments. The lectures are prepared for laymen. No special background ortechnical skills are necessary for participation. Each lecturer spends approximately one hour in formal presentation of his topic and then an informal discussion follows. We want to add our congratulations to Mr. Parker and his Democracy class for their additions to our community. information on what a good leader is, and to study the behavior and attitudes of human relations between all sects in America. These meetings have a twofold purpose. Number one, they im- prove our future leadership. Number two, they involve more students in the study of religious, racial, social and economic backgrounds in these United States. The meeting starts with a review and overview of the lessons by Don Hall of the Consultative Center at 0. U. Then the guest speaker gives a short talk on the subject of the evening. After the talk, the students break up into a de- tailed discussion of the talk. If you have not been attending the meet- ings, you have missed a very beneficial study for highschoolstudents.Therewillbe only two more meetings. Next week, on Tuesday, October 18, Dr. Trout, will be the guest speaker He is from South- eastern State College at Durant. The last meeting October 25, 1966, will be a summary of all the topics that have been talked about through the entire program.
