Published by the Students of the HUGHSON UNION HIGH SCHOOL HJMWURU In this years Annual we have tried to give you a Vivid description of our school year, our activities and a look at our every day life. We hope that this volume Will review the events of the past year as faithfully as pos- sible. UWEHHUH We the students of the Hughson High School, dedicate this Nineteen Hundred and Forty Six Husky t0 the'men and women of that community that have given their lives that we may have a better and safer place to live. 2 S. C. Galt R. Little G. G. Sweeley. Chairman C, E. Bigilow, Clerk A. Barns R. S. Tallmon, Principal The Board of Trustees The publication of the 1.946 Husky marks the close of the school year. Many are about to leave for education in higher schools, to enlist in the service of their country, or to engage in various other pursuits. It is quite fitting, then, at this time, to pause for a moment to remember those of our class Who are in the service of their country, and WhO have been absent from our group in recent months. We hope this written record of the 1945-46 year Will make up in part for What they have lost in be- ing away from their school. We hope it will let them know that we consider them a live and actively participating part of this, their graduating class. Furthermore, may the faithful chronicle of events herein portrayed stimulate us each to greater efforts of accomplishments in the days to come. We compliment each one Who has had a part in the publication of this annual, but especially the editor and his immediate staff, on a job well done. tSignetU R. S. Our destination was Pineorest, and everyone was very happy on the way there, or' so it sounded. After one of the boys got on at Sonora, the roll call was still only 9976 because, we are sorry to say, one of the girls was ill and was unable to join the party. The day was spent in skiing CH and doing various other things that are typical of the snow. tSee next pagest Lunch was served at one otclook and was followed by more skiing, etc. We left for home at six otclock and everyone was kind of tired but very happy. . We started the league contest by defeating Escalon, our Bts winning the opening game. In our next game-this time with Hilmar-the Bts again won the preliminary, but the varsity was edged out by three points. We then traveled to Patterson and over- came the Tiger Quints. but lost the B game by one point. On the evening we played Newman, both varsity and BS were clicking, and we took a pair. The next game with Gustine was the best and the most important of the season. The powerful Redskins were somewhat surprised and baffled as they were not expecting as much resistance as they received, and at the half they found them- selves trailing by several points. However, they came out in the second half and were determined to win. It'was very close all the way, but a long half-court shot in the closing seconds of the game decided it for Gustine. The Husky pups encountered little opposition and took the game fairly easy. The next week our teams avenged themselves on Ripon by a pair and trounced Linden for a second pair. Our last game ended as well for the varsity. The B team had an off night, however, losing the game, as well as the chance to win the championship. The seasons captain for the A team was Eddie Sayad, and for the Rs, Chester ttCoke3 Ramos. Baseball THE 1946 BASEBALL SEASON The Baseball Season this year has started out very well. So far we have won our first two league games with Hilmar and Gustine. The score of the Hilmar game was 11-7. A large crowd attended this game, many people coming from Hilmar' and many from Hughson as well. We all agree that this game, without a doubt, Will possibly be the most excit- ing of the season. Toward the end of the game the crowd went wild, causing our pitchers, Wally Starn, to become rattled, although at the end of the game he had struck out fifteen batters. Our next game, with Gustine, was a Close one, the score being 2-1. We still have three more league games to play, these games being With Patterson, Newman and Escalon, five games being the total number of league games to be played this season. We are hoping to win these next three games and also with it the Championship, thus giving us the Championship two years in a row. 63 v x, g nmuww.
