MIDDLE ROWeCoach Hallman, Howard Riggs, Hugh Sinclair, Wallace Star'n, Dale Van Sandt, Gerald Goesch, Jim Blakemore and Louie Zambruno. FRONT ROWH Jim Kane, Ronald Farrell, Melvin Lundell, Paul Appling, Stanley Hedberg, Bob Sayad, Loyd Verzani and Eddie Sayad. Those absent are Sam Kingery and Stanley Yoppini. The Block H is an organization made up of twenty-five boys in school who have earned a Block H in football, basketball, baseball or track. This organlzatlon lS sepa- rate from the Student Body and has its own constitution and rules. The Block H was formerly for boys who had earned a varsity letter in any of the four sports, but now it includes those of the B and C class. Each member is required to pay dues which amount to 25 cents each semester. Officers during the first semester for the Block H were: Sam Kingery as president and Jim Kane acting as vice president. Second semester, officers for the Block H were as follows: Willard Bristow, president; Richard Brown, vice president and Ivan Bland acting as secretary and treasurer. Once a month meetings are held to bring up any new or old business. t ' For ways of making money, dances sponsored by the Block H for students in school and invited friends, are held in the gymnasium. This year, three dances were sponsored by the Block H. Also during the year, the Block H had the sole power to sell popcorn and peanuts at any school function. Decco stickers and Tee shirts represent- ing Hughson High School are also sold to the students and this is a promising way of raising money. Other ways too are used and in this way the Block H has money for parties and other activities during the year. Every year just before school adjourns the initiation for new members takes place. This is the time of the year that is looked forward to by everyone. The new members usually have an idea of what is going to happen to them. Those that have been initiated look forward to it with anxiety and a time for revenge for what happened to them in years prior to the occasion. After the initiation, everyone, including the new members, if they are able to partake, enjoy all the pie and ice cream they can eat. It is really a night of fun and enjoyment for all and there is no doubt for those who were initiated, that they arenit now a full fledged member of the Block H Society. We started off With Hilmar playing here to a tie It was in this game that Eddie Sayad, right tackle, had his wrist broken while recovering a ball. The Huskies were taken for a loss in the next game due to our quarterback, Sam Kingery, Who suffered a broken collarbone. The next two games were on home ground. Jim Kane, our 198 pound fullback, won both games by conversions. ' Owing to many injuries and the loss of Hank Baba t0 the Coast Guard, we were given a trouncing by Hilmar. On the following week Patterson walked on us again. At our annual Ceres game, we set Out With high hopes but were disappointed with a loss of 20-6. Jim Kane made the only touchdown by a lateral from Willard Bris- tow 0n the kickoff. Jim Kane was voted the seasons captain. Injuries: Eddie Sayad-br0ken wrist. Sam Kingeryebroken collarbone Willard Bristowedislocated shoulder. Jim Kanee-pulled arm ligament. Ronald Farrell+pulled vertebrae. Hank BabaeCoast Guard. Page 41 374 ,7? Cr, , ???wa , x SENIOR SKIP DAY . The yearly, long x awaited Senior Skip Day this year occurred about the first of February. As you may be able to discern from the pictures, we went to the snow; Slide Inn to be exact. The weather; as usual when gala events are planned, was a corker. The rains came and the wind blew like mad. However, the undaunted Seniors, being noted for their spirit, went anyhow. At Slide Inn, where we stopped, we found about 3 or 4 inches of snow, and most of that was slush. The 34 some odd Seniors included faculty advisors Patterson tAgJ and Peron tMusici. About a mile above Slide Inn we stopped at ski hill and' had a swell time with toboggans, skis, and the ever present snow balls. Between fights and the occasional rain and snow fall, we rested and ate to our hearts content at Slide Inn. There we found recreation in the form of a piano sing and slot machines. th still brokei. A gala time was had by all. At the end of the day a 5 dollar bill was presented to Shorty Walker, keeper of the Inn, for the swell sport he had been during our high hilarity and possible mischievousness, etc. At about 4 in the afternoon most of us left in our respective groups and topped off a cold, but enjoyable day by taking in a movie. ' Blurred effect in these pictures is mostly due to a light snow fall, and overcast.
