Followmg the openlng klckoff the Mustangs carrled the ball 81 yards 1n 9 plays wzth W1tt scor1ng from the 17 W1tt ran the polnt for a 7 0 lead The Buffaloes came r1ght back to t1e the game up at 7 7 Angered a httle the Mustangs came rxght back on a 67 yard sustaxned dr1ve to go out 1n front 14 7 W1tt swept end for 18 yards and Anderson smashed for the poxnt In the second quarter W1tt went 30 yards for another tally and Anderson added the poxnt for a Z1 7 margln On the f1rst play 1n the second half W1tt p1cked up blocks by McDan1el and Leftw1ch to go 80 yards for another score W1tt scored agam 1n the flnal quarter and Bxg Doc rammed the poxnt for a 34 14 vxctory Quarterback Bllly Sxmpson called the best game of h1s career and Cyrus Reeder and Leo Duck were outstandmg on the defense AVINGER FALLS BEFORE MUSTANG POWER 2.7 0 On Oct 14th the Av1nger Indlans anc1ent r1va1s fell before the Mustang S heavy art111ery to the tune of Z7 O The f1rst half was on even terms but the Pomes solved the unorthodox lndlan defense 1n the second stanza and ran w11d w1th twenty po1nts Joel McDan1e1 opened the scqrmg by takmg W1tt s 38 yard heave 1n the end zone W1tt ran the pomt for a 7 0 lead The second touchdown came 1n the th1rd quarter when W1tt chmaxeda 44 yard dr1ve by burst1ng off tackle for 13 yards and a score Wayne Russe11's pass interception and 45 yard jaunt set up the third score. Avinger held at this point, but on their fourth down punt Witt gathered the ball in on the Avinger 45 and with the aid of Goodson's block wentall the way for the tally. Ander- son ran the point.

Zlst in six inches of mud and water but fa1led to rob any glory from the Hughes Sprmgs Mustangs as they fell before Coach Blount s undefeated eleven 41 0 Anderson opened the scorlng by dr1v1ng behxnd Ha1rl Prxce s broad shoulders for eleven yards and W1tt escorted by Welch and Goodson ran the pomt for a qu1ck7 0 count The Mustang s unsung hero B1lly S1mpson pulled a quarterback sneak for the second tally and W1tt added the po1nt In the thlrd perlod the Mustang forwards opened up large holes and W1tt sk1pped through them for touchdown runs of 60 41 and 11 yards Goodson and Anderson scored two of the extra polnts W1tt scored agaxn xn the f1na1 per1od wlth Jo1t1ng Doc ramm1ng for the po1nt Outstand1ng were Cyrus eeder Rab Wallace Donald Naron Ph111p Goolsby Carol Leftwxch and Leo Duck THE DEPORT TIGER CAGED 41 7 The Pomes talhed 1n every quarter and permltted a Deport touchdown and converslon only after four success1ve penahtxes Holye Pomeroy attended to both for the Tlgers Open1ng the mght s busxness W1tt, on the 8th play of the game sklrted left end for 18 yards and a touchdown Anderson plowed over for the po1nt In the second quarter Anderson r1pped 16 yards for a tally, and just for d1vers1on W1tt ran the po1nt W1tt scored agam mn the second perxod w1th Anderson convert mg for a 21 0 halftmme lead
