MUSTANG REVIEW MUSTANGS BLANK BIG SANDY IN OPENER 20-0 The Mustangs opened the 1949 season with a bang, down- in the Big Sandy Wildcats Z0-0 The game was one minute and ten seconds old as Ditter Weeks scored from the seven Johnny Welch added the point to give the Mustangs a quick 7 0 lead In the second half Doc Anderson Jolted over from the f1ve after runmng a Wildcat kickoff back for 65 yards Welch s conversion was blocked The final tally came late 1n the third quarter when Ander son found a hole over tackle and w1ggled through for eight yards and a score Welch s kick was good making the final score read Hughes Springs 20 Big Sandy 0 MUSTANGS TROUNCE HARMONY 54 6 The awesome Hughes Sprmgs red and black grid machine completely pulverized the Harmony Eagles 54 6 beneath an avalanche of touchdowns Sept 16th for the second victory of the season Every Mustang saw action Touchdowns were a dime a dozen with .Toby Witt leading the parade with three touchdowns and two extra points Doc Anderson was the second highest scorer with 13 points Rob ert Goodson made the longest run a 68 yard Jaunt with only 55 seconds remaining in the game Freshman Leo Duck and end Wayne Russell made a touch down each to add to the scoring while Ditter Weeks and a couple of rough tackles Philip Goolsby and Hairl Price ran three of the extra po1nts HUGHES SPRINGS NIPS LINDEN HIGH 19 IZ Coach .Toe Blount s Mustangs made it three in a row as they outclassed Class A Linden 19 12 Sept Z3 before an over flowing crowd

This was the Mustang 's fifth consecutive win.
