He is the coordinator of part time and summer jobs that many of the hoxs seek :ind is always helpful to the underclassmen in planning their programs for the forthcoming school yexu. .Xnother of his duties is working on the home room guidance progrzuns. Teachers, Students Acclaim New Home Room Guidance Program .Ks an inoyation lor the lil5l-lSl52 Hughes curriculum. the faculty has inaugurated a new home guidance program. livery Tuesclay morning an extended home room period lasts until Elzflfl, during which time various programs are presented. Each room under the sponsorship of its home room teacher elected its officers to run the weekly sessions. In most cases, a program chairman was appointed along with a special committee. 'llhis committee secured speakers, lecturers. and various films for presentation to their classmates. The teachers were hy no means idle during the course of the week. 'llhey devoted one of their free periods each week and met with Mr. Kizer, Miss Hall. and Mr. Loudenslager lor special instructions. The information was carried back to the individual home rooms and was incorporated into the programs. 'llhe seniors of the school elected their own program committee which worked on programs for the entire class. Speakers and films were secured on topics from flowers that can he found in Sharon XcVoods to Pygmies in South Africa or dope addiction. The home room guidance program was originated with the purpose of creating a more informal relationship between students to know each other. It can he recorded at the end ol' this year as at successful project which is only one ol the many steps toward ll nrore progressive second century of Hughes High School. KI ml? Able Assistants Guide Students Ben F. Fullcs Mr. Ben F. Fulks has been the assistant principal ol Hughes since 1948. For the past four years he has been the sponsor of the junior-senior honor boys' Hughes Club and the efficient adviser ol the freshman boys. Mr. Fulks also enthusiastically assists the boys working in the Book Room and Book Shop. Clyde Hall Mr. Clyde Hall sympathetically listens to absence and tardy excuses of the tenth, eleventh, and twellth grade boys in Room 14. Mr. Hall finds time during the course of the day to ably teach Algebra l and II, and Plane Geometry. Also among his many duties is his position as financial adviser of the Hughes Annual. Edna LeRoy Mrs. Edna LeRoy can be lound in room llll lrom the early hours ol the morning to the late hours ol the after- noon. She very capably lills the position oi' Dean ol Girls. Another of her most important responsibilities is sponsoring Student Council. Mrs. LeRoy also advises all students seeking scholarship information. Gladys Busch Freshman girls who have come up with some ol' the most complicated ol all problems lind a cheerful and coni- petent Miss Gladys Busch as their adviser. She is always ready to assist the girls in any way possible as they stream into Room 109 beliore and throughout the school day. Miss Busch also teaches the Latin language to Hughes students. Eleanor Krampe Stella Rowland Secretaries Perform Many Duties Hughes High School is very lortunate in having lour ellicient secretaries. They are always on hand, morning and noon. lor lrienclly clerical assistance and advice. Miss Eleanor Krampe is the ever smiling secretary to Mr. Kicer. She capably handles all ol' the ollicial correspondence and is the comforter to the empty pockets ol the teachers when she gives them their pay checks. Those students and teachers wishing announcements in the morning bulletin must see Miss Carrie Kohrmann in the center ollice, lirst desk. She carries on the business oli the school in a very enthusiastic lashion which is a credit to Hughes. Always counting, receiving, or paying money is Miss Stella Rowland, who competently lills the position ol school treats' urer. Stella. as she is called by friends and assistants, works in the Iront ollice between 8:00 a.m. and I2 n. answering phone calls, and typing and iuiineographing the absence list. The solt voice that answers the Hughes phone alter l2:tl0 n. belongs to friendly Mrs. Dorothy Tharp who works only part time.
