NN.. an Q z 1 f l . ,?,f 7' f L, 5, 'sf sf' .V fi Interlude There is the one time or period in a man's life when he can look back into the past and at the same time, look to the future lor whatever fate has in store for him: there is that one time in the history of the world when the people can look back to see what events have occurred and at the same time, look ahead in puzzling wonderment to guess what will occur in the futureg there is that one period of time in the existence of an educational institution where one can look back and measure the progress in methods of instruction and teaching and at the same time, look to the future to see what will be added. ln this day and age when our world is in an undecided state, where the past is clear but the future is foggy, the people in it are in the same state. High school seniors also are in an interlude: they can look back over four wonderful years in school during which time they prepared for their future by en- rolling in certain beneficial courses and participating in extra- curricular activities, yet at the same time their destiny and fate is just as puzzling and unknown to them as is the world's. The school with which we are concerned is Hughes High School, over one-hundred years old, with a line record of achievement for the past, and a future that is looked forward to with the same zeal and vitality that has been promoted in the years behind. Its student body, particularly the seniors, are now in their interlude of life: a state of being where their past has been clearly defined and their future only hypothesized. It is at this point in life where they lllllst find themselves and settle down in a world that is equally in its interlude. And so, we dedicate this 1952 Hughes annual to the many seniors in the world's high schools who can look back to the wonderful memories of their past four years, and must also look to the future, with a willing hand that is ready to help themselves, their families. and the world. - The Editors xmk- A-H' L
