So il was, al his dealh, Thomas Hughes bequealhed all his properly, lor lhal purpose, lo lhe children ol unborn generalions. Since lhal day in l85l when lhe porlals ol Old Hughes were opened lor lhe lirsl lime in order lhal all mighl enler, Hughes has risen lo prominence and has gained a place in lhe sun lhrough lhe achievemenls ol her many lhousand sludenls. Man can die, bul his soul lives on lhrough elernily. Our Cobbler has never died. ll, in lhe lulure, we ever achieve our hopes and desires in lile, his Dream will have been lhe source ol our success. All lhis leads us lo wonder, however, aboul lhe Cobbler himsell. We can only surmise and imagine how he mighl be slruck by lhe realizalion ol his Dream. ll, lhen, The Greal Granlor ol dreams were lo give us one wish, we would ask lhal lhis Cobbler lo whom we owe so much, be given one day on earlh in order lhal he mighl walk lhe halls lhal we have walked so many limes, visil lhe class rooms where we have sludied, and see how we live and work under lhis rool ol greal opporlunily.
