'BETSY PARKER, Clan Port. Q99 Q99 at Diary of Class of 1928 SEPTEMBER 1, 1925. Sophomores! Who doesnlt aspire to be one? And iust for fun I have decided to write down my experiences during this-1 hope to be-eventful year. For some reason I didnlt think about my diary last year-but then there was little to record. The old Blind lnstitute, serving as a makeshift for a school building, was dark and gruesome, there was little to arouse our class or school spirit. But we knew Hugh Morson was to he a reality by next year, and so we waited and the year dragged itself out. But today we are Sophomores in a new High School building-one of the best in the State. SEPTEMBER 15, 1925. Really, school life in our new building is a treat! 1 heard a whisper that we would have student government in our High School soon. From all reports nothing could happen better for the school's success. Miss Beam is so influential with our group that we believe we can undertake a share in the government of ourselves. OCOTBER 1, 1925. Wow! but that was some class meeting we had today. We discussed certain plans -good ones too-for keeping the building, in general, clean and fresh looking. The ollicers elected were President, Leah Godwin, Vice President, Sherwood Brockwellg Secretary, Lucile Johnson, Treasurer, Nancy Cox. Miss Judd is our sponsor. Sixty-one We D i. Deatong the staff members were also elected. JUNE 1, 1927. VVe Junior girls thought we were the stuff carrying the first daisy chain in the history of the High School. It seemed rather nice to be present at the class day exercises and commence- ment of so fine a class as the class of '27 was. Steady Pulling -that's what it took to make that chaing but maybe we'll get one next year. SEPTEMBER 15, 1927. Seniors! What a sensation! Is it possible that we hikers, as it were, mounting our summit round by round, can say Hurrah We are reaching the top ? NOVELIBER 15, 1927. lVe have had quite a successful year in athletics-the best in the History of Hugh hlorson. DECEMBER 15, 1927. The event of '27-our school circus. What could relieve us of our Senior dignity and remind us of our joyful youth more than the Senior Circus? We, the animal committee, felt proud of the collection of home made specimens. Our animal trainer also featured in the main show. Didn't we have a jazz band though? And those hula dancers were Broadway sen- sationalists. 1 heard they mopped up at the circus, bet we have a record breaking annual. FEBRUARY 15, 1928. All we have to do now is enjoy the past and live for the future-finish the annual, enjoy the entertainments, pass on exams, and then-glide across the stage for the long worked for and talked of sheepskin. -Lois FRAZELLE, Hirlorian. .E 5. The Jack-Rabbits plunged their way through nine games and won six of them. The first game was with Goldsboro, which resulted in a 12 to 0 victory for Hugh Morson. Dunn was the next opponent and was victorious, due to over-confidence on the part of the Hugh Morson boys. It was with renewed determination that they faced Rocky Mount on the following Friday. It was a l bitter Struggle, but the boys from the Capital City emerged with the long end ofa 19 to 6 score. The Morson Athletic followers had cause for grief again when the team lost to Durham-still our bitterest I rival-by a score of 19 to 0. A 13 to 0 victory over Oxford gave the Rabbits renewed courage, and f I i in the next game they surprised Durham and the witnessing throng by blanking Durham, 32 to 0. K This being the first championship game and an important victory, the boys, after the game, would have been given the city of Raleigh if they had only asked for it. The Sanford Yellow Jacketsv were eliminated next by a 6 to 0 score. W'l1en the Jack-Rabbits were only two games away from l the State Championship, they lost to WVilmington by a lone touchdown. This team later won the ff State Championship for 1928. 'Qi The line-up was as follows: Duke, left end, Railey, left tackle, Roberts, left guard, Gorham, center, S11 Warren, right guard and Captain, Nelms, right tackle, Austin, right end, Jeffreys, quarterback, Grant R N right halfbackg Lane, left halfbackg and Smith, fullback. Q 1 44' As this publication goes to press the Basketball season is coming to a close. The boys have just l X i won the Class A Championship in the State tournament, for the second consecutive year. Smith, with f ,ff 38 points to his credit, was high scorer in Class A, while Grant followed close upon his heels with 36 f I points. The girls have had a very successful year in basketball.
