The Marching Cavaliers The Cavalier Band had yet another successful year in 1985. Led for the second year by Director Marc Childress, the band members and director felt more comfortable and ready to achieve. The Band started their marching season a week before school, and they went to the Appalachian State, Garner, and Western Alamance Festivals. At Western and Garner the Band received superior ratings and an excellent at Appalachian State. They also won second place drum major and the John L. Harris Memorial Award for their exhibition of pride. This year, the band hosted the Cavalier Band Classic, the first festival held at Cummings with 20 bands attending from around North Carolina and Virginia, and of course the band festival was a success.
