B 91 B 0 f i'214 E Qit: The Hrst 5 games in 1980 were disappointing for the Cavs, being defeated by a good Chapel Hill team 0-17 and losing to Greensboro Smith 20-34 in its second. Then came the conference and the Cavs opened with a hard fought 2521 victory over Eastern Ran- dolph. They next went down to Mebane and lost a heartbreaker to Eastern Alamance 6 12 in overtime. The following week, Williams High School dominated the Cavs 0-30, and the Cavs stared at a disastrous season being 1-4 and looking at 5 tough conference op- ponents to come. The next 5 games started with Homecoming and a 42-0 beating of Bartlett Yancey giv- ing the young Cavs a great deal of needed conference. This was followed by a 12-3 beating of Southern Alamance. The young Cavs had grown up beating Graham 14-0. They were now looking at a possible 6-4 season, only the third winning season in the school's young history. The last two games were hard fought defensive struggles but the Cavs prevailed with a 10-7 victory over Western Alamance and a 7-0 victory over Hillsborough Orange. ln the last 5 games the Cavs had only given up 10 points and had moved the ball with enough consistency to post 5 victories and end up 64 which placed them third in the conference.
