The long summer days were being swept away by the cool autumn wind that moved in the night whis- pering quietly to me, “The easy time is gone and September is here.” And the green turned gold and red and brown, and I, too, changed as the coolness turned cold. Winter caught me unaware and taught me to search for more than warmth or an end to hunger, and | remembered summer days like a faded photograph in a dusty album. The long winter nights crept slug- gishly toward spring, and spring was hope, a spot of green in a field of brown, a touch of a smile in this place of tears. Spring warmed the blood of even the rocks, and the days were stretched and warmed like skin in the sun: Heat, wind, snowflake, night and the cycle was complete; the merry-go-round of season whined like words from a poet long dead and now revived, stopping. briefly to be heard and then moving into the night on a soft summer breeze when | am alive and searching: We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first - time.
