Let me close my ears And shut my eyes to blindness; let smells vanish into a vacuum And touch be numb And taste neither bitter or sweet: give me time to think, remember what has been, leading unceasingly until now: What | have heard were people talking, laughing, and sometimes crying: all these were necessary. What | saw was a world which had to include me and all that | am. What | smelled were odors of life, only life, death will have to wait: all these were necessary. What | touched sometimes cut, Sometimes soothed, both hard and soft, both were there, both were necessary. What | tasted | shall taste. again, both the sour and the delicious: all of these have gone before me in my day, with me, for me, and | am not the person that | was or will be, for good or ill do not figure, do not matter to me now only knowing | am not the person that | was.
