FOREWORD TABLE OF CONTENTS Organizations Athletics Advertisements In 1958—a year long to be remembered, for at that time o chapter in the 37 year history of Hueytown High came to a close. We, the staff of your RETROSPECT have tried to bring to you a story of the beginning and the ending of an era in the life of our school. We would like to pay tribute to those who have given their energies, their aspirations, and their hopes to make Hueytown the school it is today. But The best is yet to be for we begin a new and exciting era next year. Because we have literally been bursting at the seams in growth we are moving the senior high school to a new location. On Friday, April 26, 1957, the contract was let for a new school. The present building will be a junior high school. If we may paraphase Shakespeare's All the world's a stage , let us say the curtoin has rung down on the first act. 1958 These clippings were token from the high school periodical. HUEYTOWN JOINED THE ALABAMA DEBATING LEAGUE Huey town High School has joined the Alabama Debating League. The debaters to represent the school are George Cunningham, Charles Copeland, Wel-liy Smith and Horace Franklin. The debate is ‘“Resolved, That the time is now ripe for the disarmament of all nations.” The debate will take place at the University of Alabama some time in the first week of May. This debate is to decide the standing of Huey town High School and other schools in debating. It will be a championship debate, as all the minor teams have been eliminated in the preliminary debates. HU-TO-HI. 1922 GREAT CREDIT DUE GIRLS The Camp Fire Girls of Hucy-town, under the guardianship of Mrs. Mary bell Foust, went into debt $250 so that Hueytown High School might have a big eight foot concrete walk from the front of the building to the road. The Girls took the situation in hand and have paid out that debt by themselves. 1922 SCHOOL AFFILIATED Mr. Gilmore, the principal, has received the information from the State Department that Hueytown has passed all requirements to be met and is affiliated, and the students graduating from here can go to any college in the state without having to take an examination. Today, 1958, only 95 of Alabama's 341 white high schools are accredited. High Style — 1922 Grace Parson Ellington, Mildred Thompson Turner, Annie Wilson Byrd, Zelma Huey Marsh. In 1933, mainly with WPA labor, the stadium was built in a natural bowl. The school and patrons raised the money to pay for the material used.
