THE 1953 RETROSPECT HUEYTOWN HIGH SCHOOL f -jgj r?i . ■ ’■ HUEYTOWN, ALABAMA Civics! Doing something! Not just reading! Martha Creagh, Paul Hayes, and Jack Morgon, are studying how the President is elected. This is part of their citizenship education. American history! Not just one book but lots of books! Fiction, biography, magazines. It takes many things to tell the story of our country. These students, James Stroiton, Sue White, Don Duke and Henry Holmes are reading current history in the library. I hear the students singing merrily about the school For each is happy and cheerful and tries to practice the Golden Rule. Listen in the typing room-can you hear it? The noisy hum as the typists send out songs of the busy workers. Then to the Chemistry lab; We see the song in the faces os the students complete each experiment and hastily clean the lab. In the shop the boys ore busy But still their hearts sing a merry tune of work well done. —Patsy Gizelar. Some of the bc:l advice of the ages comes from Shakespeores pen and reading Shakespeare is fun if it includes doing other things. Glenda Jackson, Gamer Bingham and Mary Ann McCollum are looking over models of Shakespeare's time. Math is needed in engineering courses in college. Many students enter this field, and are preparing for it. Kelley Nesmith is explaining a solid geometry problem. Home and Fomily Relations! Personality Study, How to Choose a Partner for the Future, Getting along with Others, these and many other topics are guide-posts to help us learn to live better. Joan Hosmer, Dick Shelby, Jimmy Parkel, Nell Nichols, are in the library looking up additional information for this course. Driving, a new course to improve sofety on the road. Mrs. Cook is teaching Lawrence Glass how to moke a right turn. Spanish or Latin? Which should I take? Is Latin a ' dead language? Will Spanish help me in college? These are many questions which baffle newcomers to our school. Here Norma Wade, (standing) helps answer these questions, as will Larry Scott, Johnny Simonton, and Joan Golden. w It lasts tr,e ix r£r: a . ••• MunK t Typing cnoblcs us to earn a living; many begin employment immediately after graduation. Tommy Buckner, Betty Dickinson, Mildred Stone, Nell Olive, Elizabeth Stanton, Howard Winseltt, Betty South, Eloise Dye and Lera McLaughlin. Well dressed! That’s what Home Economics can do.
