The'Shield strives tirpromote excellence in the field of journalism while at the same time presenting itself as a voice of the student body. It brings the students an up-to-date report on school activities. Jim Hammond, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, represents the Shield in the student government class. In addition to being a member of the Quill and Scroll, which is an honorary journalism society, the Shield staff attends the annual Edward A. Dickson Journalism Day at 188 U.C.L.A.
