THE Presented by the Senior Class of 1968 About the cover ... . Action is the theme of our 1968 Pioneer Yearbook. Because we stressed this theme throughout the book, we did not want to leave the cover without it. To solve this problem, we took the word Pioneer and changed it.into the shape of our school. This, to the students attending H.H.S. denotes plenty of action. the Pioneer Staff. We have portrayed the sportsmanship, spirit, friendship of the students to one another, and the attitude of the student body toward the faculty. We have tried to capture the wonderful memories that have happened during the year so that you can look back in the future and remember these events. On these two pages we have captured the spirit of the student body during our homecoming. 3 Dedication It is with sincere appreciation that we, the Senior Class of 1968 dedicate this, our annual, to the teacher who in our estimation has contributed most to our total education and enriched our lives by his constant concern. We thank you deeply and dedicate this annual to you, MR. SERUM. 4 In Appreciation LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Shriver, Mrs. Gentry. Mr. Serum. My host-family was really nice, we got along very good. I had many good times with them, but a main thing of my stay was, that I could attend Hudsonville High School. I really liked it here, although it was very different from my German school. Everybody was so nice and friendly I want to say thank you for everything, especially that I was honorary representative at Homecoming, that I got such a nice Christmas present and even a class ring (we don't have them in Germany). I also could attend the Student Council meetings to see how it is like. It was also another experience to take different subjects. In Germany I don't have Speech, Govern ment, American History, Home Ec. and Typing in my school. The teachers made me have a nice time in their classes and I want to thank them for their understanding and friendliness. I liked Mr. Lampen very much too, and I'm thankful that he helped me whenever I needed Him. I'll be very sorry to leave, especially now, when I really feel at home, but I want to come again to the U.S. and hope to meet some of you then! Or, if you come to Europe or Germany--be sure to visit me! ! Tatjana Guetschow 519 Stolberg! The queen, and her court were the stars of the home- coming parade, in which the class floats, portraying various holidays, were drawn. When the rain failed to cease by halftime, the crowning ceremony was cancelled until the following week. At that time beneath clear skies, the reigning queen, Kathy Hassevort, crowned Lavonne Schut the queen of Hudsonville High School for the School year, 1967-1968. 87 x« Jr-Sr Banquet 1966-67 90 May Day was the setting for the annual Hudsonville High School Junior- Senior Banquet. The banquet was held in the Commons Building at Grand Valley State Col- lege. A total of 350 students, teachers, and administrators attended and feasted on a ham dinner. The main decoration consisted of a large May pole in the entrance to the dining area. The tables were decorated with cut daisies and programs with May baskets and flowers on the covers. Dinner music was provided by the Ben Keith Combo. Twenty-two freshman, dressed in May Day costumes, waited on their su- perior classmen. After dinner, with Doug Sikkema acting as master of ceremonies, Larry Spoolstra, 1967-68 student council president, made a toast to the seniors, with Armand Sikkema doing the honors of receiving it. After the banquet a prom was held in the Grand Traverse Room of the Lake Michigan Hall on campus for all interested couples. In spite of a light turn- out for the prom, the couples attending enjoyed themselves. 91 Gidget Goes Hawaiian” 93 MUSIC Eagle Band FRONT ROW: B. Holleman, J. Kldoster, J. Lippenga, S. Heyenburg, D.
