SENIOR CLASS HISTORY When the Senior Class of '60 entered Huston Township High School as Fresh- men on August 26, 1956, the four years until graduation seemed to stretch forward interminably. Looking back, those years have passed quickly. The activities of the class were varied and interesting. Martino Class Colors: Green and White Class Motto: For God and For Country Class Flower: Yellow Rose Class Dues: $2.25 per year Some of the students took active part in basketball, cheering, music and journalism. It was decided that we would keep the same colors, flowers, and motto as the previous years. The purchasing of our class rings was the biggest event of the year. Every Thursday we sold Sloppy Joes. We also sold Easter candy. On May 15 we sponsored a prom for the entire high school. Everyone had an enjoyable evening. Award Day was held on May 26 and the following received awards: Best-All- Around: Karen Winkler, Basketball Certificates: Laverne Van Horn, Harvey Bundy, and Dennis Guido, Cheering Certificates: Joan Carroll, Catherine Munn and Judy Weaver, Softball Certificates: Joan Carroll, Catherine Munn, Judy Weaver, and Barbara Johnston, Baseball Certificates: Harvey Bundy, Laverne Van Horn, and Dennis Guido. On August 31, 1959, we began our last year of high school with an enrollment of twelve. Our first class meeting was held on September 11 for the purpose of electing the following: President: Laverne Van Horn Vice-President: Dennis Guido Secretary: Karen Winkler Treasurer: Harvey Bundy Class Advisor: Mr. H. Cheslock We decided to keep the following: Class Colors: Green and White Class Flower: Yellow Rose Class Motto: For God and For Country We held a magazine campaign and sold Sloppy Joes every Thursday to earn money for our long awaited trip to Washington, D. C. One day passed into another and it was time for our never-to-be forgotten trip to Washington, D. C. on September 23, 24, 25, and 26. We saw many historical things as well as history in the making. We returned enriched and broadened by our experiences and enjoyment of the trip. In October, we sponsored a Halloween party for the high school. On May 18, 1960, we held Class Night with the entire class participating to make it an enter- taining evening. Then came the long awaited day. On Sunday, May 22, I960, we marched up the aisle of the gymnasium on one of the most important days of our lives. We received our diplomas with a deep feeling of gratitude and satisfaction in the goal we had achieved, mingled with regret of leaving the school of our high school days. But this was not quite the end; in June we were host to the high school at the annual picinc. Later in June, we were honored guests at the annual Alumni Ban- quet. We take this opportunity now to say thank you to everyone who has helped us to reach our goal. 11 Karen Winkler
