BASKETBALL BANQUET The annual Huston Township High School basketball awards banquel was held in the school gymnasium Thursday night, March 8. Invocation was asked by Rev. Paul Rice. A delicious dinner, prepared by Mrs. Ben Chiodo, Mrs. Rose Muccio, Mrs. Louis Hudsick, Mrs. John Hudsick, Mrs. Jchn Michuck, Mrs. William DeSalve, and Mrs. David Nelson, was served. The tables were decorated with spring flowers. Harry H. Alcorn, principal of Huston Township Schools, served as master of ceremonies. Group singing was under the direction of Mrs. Hazel Jameson, music teacher. Guests present, who were introduced by Mr. .Alcorn, included D. A. Yingling, Superintendent of County Schools, and Mrs. Yingling; Fred Sweeley, Assistant Superintendent of County Schools and Mrs. Sweeley; Harry Blackwell, Supervisor of Special Education in County Schools; Mrs. Julia Hagen, county office secretary; the members ol thee Huston Township school beard and their wives; teachers of the Huston Township schools; Rev. Paul Rice and Mrs. Rice; Rev. John Plant and Mrs. Plant; Rev. Lyle Beebe and Mrs. Beebe, and the main speaker of the eve- ning, Dr. Ralph Castafcro, curriculum advisor of Ridgway Joint High School. Dr. Castafero spoke of the merits of high school basketball, especially where it is played in the spirit of fun. The Huston team, Dr. Castafero stated, was well-known for its fine spirit of sportsmanship whether it won or lost. He complimented the Huston team for this fine spirit of fair play, stating that Bennett’s Valley could feel justly proud of the team and the cheerleaders who supported the Trojans team so well and faithfully. Dr.Castafero said that athletes make fine citizens, especially when a school carries on an athletic program such as that of Huston Town- ship High School where sportsmanship is stressed whether the team is winning or losing. Mr. Paul Taylor, Huston Township High School coach, presented awards to the basketball team members as follows: Jackets were awarded to the following senior boys: Gerald Vargas, Tom Seduski, DeLare Czajouski, and Manager Harwood Newell. Letters were awarded to the following boys: Tom Renwick, Ronald Brundridge, Ronald Hudsick, Donald Chiodo, John Zernell, Charles Smith, Ralph Assalone, and Assistant Manager Neil Rogers. Mrs. Clara McFall, cheerleader advisor, presented awards to the cheerleaders as follows:

VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The Varsity Cheerleaders of the Huston Trojans started their success- ful cheering year with 3 veteran cheerleaders, JoAnn Georgino, Georgia Challingsworth and Beverly Miller. Patricia Wallace, Joyce DeSalve and Shirley Smith later joined the squad. During the course of the year Beverly Miller resigned and Aileen Nelson was selected from the Jay Vee squad to fill the vacant spot. The new cheerleaders cooperated and we originated and adopted many new cheers. The senior cheerleaders JoAnn Georgino, Georgia Challingsworth, and Patricia Wallace received gold and blue sweaters as awards for their many years of cheering. JoAnne Miller and Barbara Gusherowski were elected from the freshman class to complete the sextette. Aileen Nelson was elected to the Varsity Squad and Judy Levendusky took her place on the Jay Vee Squad. The girls did a very fine job in cheering and supporting their team. JoAnn Georgino

Sweaters were awarded to the following seniors: Georgia Challings- worth, JoAnn Georgino, and Patricia Wallace. Letters were awarded to the following girls: Joyce DeSalve, Shirley Smith, and Ailen Nelson. Following the presentations, the varsity cheerleaders presented Coach Taylor and the team with a large, beautifully decorated cake to express appreciation for their contribution to the school’s athletic activity.
