U: 1950 the boys interested in football ,reported to Mr. Amacher for the first practice. There were 2h boys reporting of which 9 were returning lettermen. They were Glenn Larson, Don- ald Horner, Rich Wold, Roger Evanson, Frank Myers, Bill Vogelzang, Roger Miller, Charles Gourley, and Gerald Krause. It looked as though they might go places at first but after the first two games their hopes were down. Hakonda beat them 33-6 with the best team in the conference. They then lost to Gayville M0-27 on their inexperlence and their opponents quickness on the first two plays proved the margin of victory. Their next game was played with the Ireton team which was very poor. It helped the boys' morale though as they beat them 33-O. Going into the second half of the season they played their first night game as they beat a rough and well-played game at Viborg 38-25. The next game was Homecoming, played on a fine day with a good crowd on hand to witness one of the most thrilling games of the season with our boys coming out on top 22-20. The winning and last touchdown with extra point came in the last minutes of tho game. It happened to be the first Homecoming game that Hudson had won in five years. The last game was played with Alcester and the two teams were pretty evenly matched but the Cubs finally came out victors lh-6. Thus ended a very fine season by the Hudson Trojans. BASKETBALL Practice started on october 30, 1950 with 26 boys reporting for practice. There were 6 returning letter-men who made up the nucleus of the squad. The were Glenn Larson, Donald Horner, Frank Myers, Gerald Krause, Bill Vogelzang, and Roger Miller. D MUSIC PAGE Our music program gotoff to a slow start this year. We lost our last years music instructor, Mr. Hagen, to Harisburg High School. The school board had not been able to procure another by the time school had started last fall. Our Commercial teacher Mr. Davidson, kept our music department together. He directed band practice two or three times each week and on the alternate days he- held mixed chorus and boys and girls glee club practice, In October the school board procured a senior from the Univer- sity of South Dakota music department to teach band and start be- giners to fill in the vscancies in the band. He was Mr, Charles Roberts from Faulkton, South Dakota. Mr. Roberts came to Hudson on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. He gave individual lessons to be. ginncrs all through the day and held a full band practice once a day. Mr.Davidson bft us and Mr. Roberts then took charge of full music program. Mr. Roberts then began to get ready for the music contest. He was a pioneer with the boys glee club as it had been many years since boys glee club had been organized and taken to the contest. He had a large group of beginners in the band and it did not sound well when the contest music was brought out. After several weeks of practice however, the band sounded very well considering the large number of beginners. The mixed chorus and girls glee clubs were both groups of considerable experience. There were two small groups that were taken to the contest. These were the mixed ensemble and the girls ensemble. The mixed ensemble consisted of Marian Paulson, Alice Vipond, Carol Larson, Darly Anderson, Gerald Krause, Frank Myers, Roger Evanson and Darrell Fowler. The girls ensemble consisted of Darly Anderson, Carol Larson, Marian Paulson, Lois Paulson, Charlotte Hagen, Alice Vipond, Doris Fowles and JoAnn Krauses These groups both received seconds at the music contest. These are the soloists who went to the contest and their rat- ings. The ratings of the large groups are as follows: Boys Glee Club-l- Girls Glee Club-2- Mixed Chorus-2- Band-2-. Considering the difficulties we encountered during the year it was general thought the department did very well in the music contest. New that we have a very good music instructor who will will be able to help the students in many ways,we are expecting greet things of our music department in the future. A very attractive stage decorated in black and gold was the setting. The drill team, under the direction of Mrs. Ray, impressed the audience very much with their performance. An isle was formed by them for the royalty to pass through. The Student Council President, Glenn Larson, crowned Clara Hazel to reign as queen with Anita Egge, junior high attendants Charlotte Hagen, freshmeng Shir- ley Roti, sophomoreg Darly Anderson, juniorg Shirley Jones and Sharon Wegner were the senior attendants. The train and crown bearers were Sylvia Strain, Carol Christopherson, and Robert Fitch respectively. Corsages were given the attendants and the queen received a bouquet. Im ediately following Coronation a snake dance around a huge bonfire was held behind the school building. The snake dance continued through the business section of town with a pep rally on main street. On Friday afternoon preceeding the football game with Irene a large parade headed by the color ouard with floats from high school classes, grades, and also some business places particinating. The seniors taking first on their very clever float, the junior's humorous float took second, and the F.F.A. with their impressive one took third. The drill team was followed by the convertible with the queen, train and crown bearers to the field. All who attend- ed were very well pleased with the Trojan's victory this be- ing the first Homecoming for some time that our team was not defeated. To close the two days activities an alumni banouet was held in the evening. The main attraction being Dr. 1.33 Weeks from the University of South Dakota.
