HUDSON area high SCHOOL 1987-88 It’s more than just a matter of time, it's a state of mind. We waited so long for this year, and now it's moving way too fast. We always counted down the days till vacation, but this is different, for us this is it...........It's the Final Countdown! 99 The Class Of 1988 saTHE final countdown School opened on September 1, 1987, after a summer that seemed much too short. It was good to see everyone again. The building felt the same, except that there were a lot of very small freshmen, and a new group of students that had waited 12 years to be... THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1988. For their high school careers, this year was truly... THE FINAL COUNTDOWN ! Top right: 1987 Varsity Golf Team: L to R: Jay Hunt, Tom Burke, Steve Harbaugh, Jason Blackburn, Chris Bortnichak. Missing: Jamie Patterson. Center: 1987 Cross Country Team: L to R; Coach Evenson, Jeff Burke, Jamie Lyons, Tom Popejoy, Tom Romanowski, Lorie Malarney, Brian Evenson, Ron Popejoy, Scott Ballantine, Doug Randall, Mark Houser. The hardest thing about the first few weeks at school this year was finding a parking space, it was easier to just ride the bus. Although the parking lot was full, there were still plenty of parking places left inside the school, like the window ledges and the bleachers. 95 1987 HOMECOMING COURT - Pictured with their escorts from left to right: April Hurley (Freshman), Tracie Marvin (Sophomore), Lisa Boehk (Junior), Sherry McClellan (Senior), Queen Gladys Townsend (Senior), Kim Schaffner (Senior), Lisa Ewald (Junior), Kathy Ransom (Sophomore), Mindy Lett (Freshman). Top left: The Sophomores float, Ida-Busters joins the parade! Top right: The Homecoming Queen candidates walk off the butterflies before the parade. 94 Homecoming week was much too short. All the classes were busy working or playing around their floats, remembering other years, and trying to sneak in to see the other floats. Ready or not, they all got their floats to the parade on time, and, in spite of last minute repairs they all looked good. The Freshmen took first place with their Masters Of The Universe float, and the Seniors were second with their Snoopy float. The Tigers lost a tough game to Ida. Top left: Although the senior float Snoopy was shot down in the competition, the class will never forget working on it and consulting the Ouija board for help. Top right: The band tunes up and prepares to lead the parade. Center: Popeye on the Junior float Strong to the Finish just didn't eat enough spinach to beat out the Masters of the LCAA on the Freshman float (left). 93 Fired Up!!! The class day program, with its history, wills, awards, prophecies, and slides followed. Class Day officially ended the school year for the Seniors at Hudson Area High School. Most of the Seniors were glad that the day had finally come, but others were sad, thinking of the memories and friendships they had to leave behind. Below: TOP TEN: Front row, left to right: Heather Boudreau, Angie Salenbien, Cherry Aldrich, Steve Remsing, Jim D'Lamater, Dan Spencer. Second row: Kristi Kope, Wendy Taylor, Jeff Tanner, Tom Romanowski. GRADUATION DAY Eighty-eight seniors participated in the graduation ceremony on June 5, 1988. For the first time, teachers were also in caps and gowns. It didn't seem possible that it was over so fast and the Seniors of 1988 were now graduates. 2 The Final Countdown was over and the moment of truth had arrived for the Class of 1988. All the years of waiting were nothing compared to the time spent waiting in line to receive the diplomas. While parents, families, and friends watched, the class waited in the heat to receive the good (or bad) news. Some of the more insecure even tried to peek and see if the diploma was really signed. In less than 35 minutes, the ceremony was over and the class was ready to celebrate their graduation, and their entry into their chosen careers, further education, military, or a variety of other endeavors. The Class of 1988 left an empty space which next year's seniors are already anxious to fill. We wish the Seniors the best of luck, and congratulate them on surviving the final countdown and the entire journey! 0 GOOD LUCK SENIORS! SNllSO[
