It seems like such a small thing compared to the fourteen years you have given to the stu- dents of Hudson Area Schools, but it is certain- ly well-deserved. During your teaching career, you have brought far-away worlds into the class- room, through such classes as World Literature, Shakespeare, and Mythology. Your enthusiasm and dedication have been great assets to our school and will surely be missed. We now wish you many happy years as you reach out to a new path in life. The 1977 Hudsonian Staff We the 1977 yearbook staff would like to dedicate this page to our departing principal Mr. Robert Duncan. Mr. Duncan has done a lot to make this school great and we will greatly miss him. We wish you the best of luck in what- ever you do and we hope that you won't ever forget the good times you had at Hudson High. Un- der the leadership of President Karen Marry many things were accomplished, Homecoming was first on the agenda. This year’s theme was “Songs . The se- nior’s float, “Stairway to Heaven” took first and Lisa Hinkle was crowned queen. “Surface played at the homecoming dance. As Christmas neared, we once again had our annual decorating contest, which proved to be a flop. Since the seniors were the only class to decorate, the judges faced a tough decision and the seniors unanimously won. The Christmas dance, fea- turing Black Forest” had a big turnout and proved to be the only dance that made considerable profit. Representative Mowat came and presented to us a Michigan flag of which he told the origin and history. Several money making projects were launched this year. We sold malts, ice cream cones, custom-made buttons, and notebook paper. Among the assemblies that the S.C. sponsored were a speaker on Russia, a gymnastic routine, Freedom Jam, a rock group, and a hypnotist. Some new things were tried this year. A record hop was put on and proved to be a success. Al- so, a not so successful but enjoyable movie was put on for the public. A Parents Night for Basketball Play- ers was also held. Again this year the LCAA Dance was at our school over Easter vacation, featuring a talented band “Mas- quarade . Sponge week was held in May. Thus ended the school year 1976-77. t- ■ ••• 1 Reps, to L.C.A.A. Student Council 22 Junior Representatives: Patsy Brown, Mark Duncan, Tom Schroeder, Janice Holt. Freshmen Representatives: Chris Bade. The chairpersons for the Hudson delegation were Amy Swanson and Laura Hazen. The different committees included in the Convention were the bottle ban, the ERA and raising the drinking age. Elections were held for the Presidency and for State Representatives. The delegation left at the start of the school day and didn’t return until late into the night, after having spent a very fun and enjoyable time at the Convention. 48 JR.-SR. JNTRflMURFILS BASKETBALL Intramural basketball had only four teams this year, but it was quite a season. This year the teams got a little more physical than usu- al. If it was a boring noon hour you could al- ways go into the gym and watch Huff Com- pany wipe ’em up, one way or another. They were league winners this year. Other teams were - The Lakers, led by Mark Bade; Millers Team, led by Roger Miller; and Popejoy’s Team, led by Harry Popejoy. Mem- ber’s of the winning team were: Doug Huff- Captain, Rich Hamden, Billy Seymoure, George Atkinson, and Perry Patton. OKLAHOMA 52 Nag, nag, nag, that’s all she does. The dream ballet. A dream come true. Winter gave way to spring as the production of “Okla- homa” came alive. Three nights of full houses saw Ted Shinn, as Curly, and Sue Miller, as Laurey, bring to life one of the most charming love stories of our time, while Perry Swailes, as Jud, and Karen Marry, as the motherly Aunt Elder, looked on. Meanwhile, fickle Ado Annie, played by Paula Brown, and Will, played by Mark Duncan, were hav- ing problems of their own with Ali Hakion, played by Jim Wilson, giving Persian good-byes and causing problems. But all ended well with Laurey and Curley getting married, Annie and Will getting back together, and Ali getting rid of Annie and ending up with Gerty, protrayed by Laura Ha- zen. The singing and dancing of the supporting cast was just magnificent. Once again Mrs. Sheely did a beautiful job to get the best out of her veterans and come up with some newcomers who show much promise for the future. Will and Annie fighting it out. 53 HDMECQMJMG Seniors: Teresa Guttirrez. Lisa Hinkle, Karen Marry. Juniors: Tammy Secrist, Patsy Brown. Homecoming Court and their escorts. Under rookie coach, Pam Badders, and co-captains Annette Shelle and Pat Roney, the girls had a fine sea- son. In pre-regional action the girls took on Onsted. Af- ter being behind 12-6, the Tigers came back to win 17- 15. In the second game the girls blanked the Wildcats 15-9, with Tammy Bellfy scoring the first 6 points, and the reamining points were served by Sue Anderson. This victory advanced the team to the regionals at Addison. In the first game of the regionals the Tigers met the Clinton Redskins. Thanks to a great fan section the girls were fired on to take the first two games. Erie-Mason was the next victim of the Tigers as the girls again came from behind and then held off a strong surge by their opponents to gain a berth in the finals. Summerfield proved to be just too much for the Tigers and the girls fell to their tremendous spiker who time and again drilled the ball at the feet of a very tired Tiger team. Congratulations to a team who finally got their team work together when it was necessary. Last minute instructions. Our float didn’t do as well as when we were freshmen, but you never know about our class. The homecoming representatives for our class were Anne Webster and Jana Eagle. Their escorts were Chuck Salamin and Dave Kingsley. Our class had a little trouble paying class dues, they also had an inability to listen at class meetings. All in all it was a fun year, and we can’t wait until we finally become upper- classmen. These past years have been full of memories, but no one can forget our senior” year. It wasn’t until our senior year that we finally took 1st place with our beautiful, super, fan- tastic, terrific, great display of talent Stairway to Heaven”. We were honored to have Lisa Hinkle crowned homecoming queen. Her senior court con- sisted of Theresa Gutierrez and Karen Marry, with their escorts Dan Borck, Rick McCormick and Gary Garland, respectively. We were fortunate to have as our class advisor, Mr. Evenson. We wish to thank him for all the help and support he has given us this year. A special thanks also to Mr. Duncan, who is one of the greatest principals around. All in all it’s been a great four years; ones that we’ll always re- member. But, next year there will be another class of Seniors and in every year to come. We all must keep on looking to the next year and the year after that. The future is where our life is. We are the people of tomorrow. We have to have the knowledge to build the future. We get it at school. We, the 1977 Yearbook Staff would like to express special thanks to Mrs. Good- rich for air her time and help. She gave us all the support we needed throughout the year. We'd like to thank Mr. Sheeley, the Hudson Post-Gazette, Tom Good- rich, and Tom Fowler, for their help with pictures. Also, thank you to Mrs. Donald- son, Mrs. Riley, and Mr. Duncan for putting up with our constant borrowing. 1977 Hudsonian Staff m WALSWORTH Marceline. Mo., U.8.A.
