Board Of Education LEFT TO RIGHT: Walter Rupp-Secretary, Jack Shaffer-Trustee, Clair Swanson-President, Jim Hartley-Treasurer, John Newlove-Trustee. MISSING: Jim Lemons-Trustee and Dick Opsal-Trustee. The Administration is made up of three sections, much like our Federal Government, the Superin- tendent's Office being the Executive Branch, the Board of Education being the Judicial Branch, and the Principal's Office being the Legislative Branch. The Board of Education is composed of seven non-salaried positions elected from members of the community. Their terms are usually for four years. The Board's meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month. The many problems and ideas to be discussed are coordinated by Mr. Fer- man. He is a key man although he is not a member of the Board himself. The Board, like the Judicial Branch, has the final decision on all matters. The Superintendent's office or Executive Branch, under the direction of Mr. Douglas Ferman, is in charge of the four schools in the Hudson Area School District. It's duties include; Employment of new teachers, purchasing and maintaining school equipment, and seeing that text books remain up- to-date. The Principals, like Senators, are representative from each building. They are responsible for keep- ing the Superintendent informed of the state of af- fairs on their respective buildings. These three sec- tions compose the administrative body of our school system. 6 Mr. Ferman and Mr. Swanson discuss the meeting's agenda.

Superintendent's Office Mr. Ferman received his B.A. degree from Adrian College and his M.A. degree from Wayne Stale University. He has put in many years of dedicated work as Superintendent. This year something new has been added to our school system-an inter- school switchboard that controls the telephone calls. Mrs. Kinsey (LEFT) and Mrs. Shinaberry are secretaries to the Su- perintendent. Here, they are looking over the monthly reconciliation. 7
